Just out of curiosity, wouldn't it be easier to keep track of shots using the
six arcs on most ships bases or templates?

If someone asked this already, sorry, I missed it.

As an alternative, four arcs of hull/armor, with each side arc
comprising two side arcs, would work with some modification.

No reason why it can't be done. I just picked 4 sides for a simple start.
