Yes, this isn't topical, except to say that I just put in an order a little
bit ago for a pile of stuff (a couple of hundred pounds) from Mr.Tuffley. It
was large in terms of numbers of items (lots of individual figures from the
various personalities lines). He had the whole thing packed, totalled and
either mailed or ready to go inside or 36 hours. It happened so darn fast, my
head was spinning. Now of course, it is up to the tender mercies of
International Postal Operations (in whom I have limited faith).
But in terms of turn around time, I have nothing but the highest praise for
Mr.Tuffley. He took a big ugly order (and patiently waited for me to put it
together after I promised it to him a few days before) and got it out the door
faster than I expected by a factor of three to five. Blistering, I'd have to
call the pace.
I'd just like to say I've done business with KR, Nic and Jon (I try to get at
least one order to each of them every 18 months if I can manage), and their
flexibility (getting me special requests like a fleet pack with a FB instead
of FT for a new player), their speed, their
competence (rarely - as in I can't recall one - a
problem or mistake in shipping or packing), and their personal touch makes
dealing with them about 1 billion times nicer than trying to fight with stores
to order their stuff and wait and wait and wait for it to actually never
arrive.
Our local store is good in that they do seem to care and they have lots of
neat stuff and if I want a boardgame or card game, I go buy it
there. But if I want FT/SG/DS or related
products, I go to the source(s). And I have not regretted it yet, nor do I
expect to. Don't suffer interminable wait times nor questionable
delivery - go to the source. That's my advice.
KR, Jon T, Nic - Keep it up! You guys maintain
my faith in "quality service", a concept sadly abused by far too many retail
and wholesale outfits these days. And don't get me started on the Telcos or
Cable Companies....
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggg
hhhhhhhhhhh!
I am STILL waiting for my retailer's call to be returned about the status of
my GZG order (I'm not the only person with stuff in this order either)! And
yes, that was a shout! This is insane.
Take a note - next time: Direct.

No question. I've ordered from Jon (usually stuff that was *just* out
of the mold/off the presses) several times. Quick, cheap, easy.
Since I'm not driving to the store, I figure what I spend on postage, I save
on gas. And with Jon's figs, you really are okay to order
sight unseen--on the 15mm NSL Panzergrenadiers I just opened, 2 squads
worth had exactly 1 mold line that I could spot--one fig showed a line
on the armor plate on the left thigh. Took me all of ten seconds to
I heartily agree, at least to the limit of my my experience. I act as the
local retailer for most of our group, as I sell game stuff in addition to my
computer business. While I've never dealt with Jon, all of my dealings with KR
have been great, and any mistakes have been mine (guess I'll take this
opportunity to apologize once more for my screwup on my last order!). Anyway,
it's always a pleasure dealing with KR, and I've not been disappointed yet.

Tom, you may be rather pleasantly surprised. For whatever reason (probably
sheer volume, if nothing else), the CRCS (formerly Canada Customs) is faster
clearing packages from the UK into Canada. I've had packages with gifts from
friends take 2 weeks to come up from the US via mail. I've had packages from
Jon arrive in 3 to 4 days. The best time was when I e-mailed Jon on the
Monday morning (my time, so it was already afternoon in Britain) with an order
and it was waiting for me when I got home Thursday.
I had a package not so long ago get stopped at Customs. For
non-Canadians,
this is doubly irksome. There is no duty on game stuff from the US, and the
duty from Britain is pretty small. But if they stop the package, they will
charge 7% Goods and Services Tax (like a VAT), 8% Provincial Sales Tax, plus a
$5 "handling fee". At any rate, out of three packages in the last couple
months, only one was stopped. Now, yours is big enough that it probably WILL
be stopped and taxes applied. Even so, my package that was stopped still made
it through in a week.
Let us know when you get it...

Sad to say, that's the way I've had to go. My local miniatures store sometimes
waited many months before putting in an order to Britain. They were "helping"
me by combining orders to lower shipping (I suspect they were getting their
own prices down that way, hence the wait).
I like the store, I like the people there, but I just don't order anything
through them anymore. I do it all online, even if "online" is a stop on the
GZG catalogue page and an e-mail to Jon.
On the other hand, niche markets always had problems in stores. Big retailers
are finding the web is dubious at best, and canibalizing in store sales at
worst. Small retailers are seeing it as a great way to keep prices down and
serve a large number of people. Catalogue and mail order were big for a long
time, but the cost of producing catalogues were usually the downfall. The web
solves that.

I heartily agree with all the other peoples' comments on Jon's service.
Just a few weeks ago, I sent an order to Jon with an error in the credit card
info and then went on holidays.
Jon e-mailed me about the problem (twice!) and, when I didn't react,
sent me a letter.
When I came back from holiday, the matter was quickly resolved and I had my
stuff within a few days.
Thanks, Jon!
Greetings
Sorry to have vented on the list. I really am trying to ne loyal to the local
B&M shop but each time I do it seems there is a breakdown *somewhere* in
getting stuff not in the shop already.
Gracias,
