I'm now the proud owner of a Full Thrust-able Space Battleship Yamato.
I
got three small-scale kits yesterday in my local model shop (Wonderland
Models in Edinburgh), one of the Yamato herself, one of the Cosmo Tiger
fighter and one of what appears to be a lander or shuttle suitable for DS2.
Each cost £2.99 and is "box scale". The only English on the boxes is the
legend "Space Cruiser Yamato" and "Bandai 1979 Made in Japan". From the
figures in the data panels in the boxes, thescales appear to be, Shuttle:
1/309, Cosmo Tiger 1/156 and Yamato 1/2100.
The Yamato is 127mm long, and the kit comprises 39 parts plus a stand. It is
NOT one of those "super deformed" types, but a "proper" scale model. Detail is
good, and the fit of parts is excellent and positive. Overall, I'm delighted.
The box art shows that they're part of a series of 30
(30!)
Yamato-cartoon models (including the Andromeda, Dessler's Flagship,
Earth Battleship etc.); the shop's buyer was off that day, so I don't know if
the rest are available. I strongly recommend watching out for these.
How odd. I just picked up a bunch of the kits in this line last weekend at an
otherwise unremarkable model expo here in California. The guy was selling them
for $3 each, he had a large box full of 'em, and he wasn't hesitant about
parting with them (he threw a few extra into my bag). I didn't ask him how
plentiful his supply was. Maybe the box load was it.
I agree that the models are very nice. For Full Thrust, I think the various
Earth destroyers and cruisers look best, but that's partly because I'd feel
silly fielding a whole fleet of Yamatos. The kits contain a surprising amount
of parts for models that range from about
4" - 5" long. At the very least, they're great sources of parts
(turrets, antennae, etc.) to use with other minis.
If anyone knows where I can get these in the UK (preferably online so as I
don't have to get off my arse...) could they please say?
I'm guessing these are much better scale for a 100 tonner (FT/MT rules)
than the little metal ones I'm using at the mo, yes?

Dave, If you mean compared to GZG figs, think superships. Don't have any handy
now, but I'm thinking most as long and thick as a finger. I may be
exaggerating a tad, but not much. Lovely ships, but best when played with each
other.

There is an entire Star Blazers game and plenty of minis available at:

Christopher, I'm fairly certain his 'little metal ones' are the same. I think
he already knows.
All the diecast I've seen are 'mega' ships compared to GZG ones.

A few words about thos minis and the game. The Minis from Musashi are of
pretty good quality. Not up to GHQ standards, but better than the CinC's (that
I've seen) for detail. The casting quality on mine is good, and the
photoetched
metal parts look great - but are a bear to assemble. Painted, they look
great -
even the smaller EDF and Gamilon ships.
The game is reminiscent of Full Thrust when boiled down, but the writers don't
have St^3 Jon's talent for clear and concise rules. Rather the oposite,
really. And the organization is poor. But it's a fun game.
I own a large number that I splurged on buying at a GenCon one year. I just
found the whole bag of 'em unpainted in a moving box that I just finally
unpacked after about four years...
Their size was my one complaint. Not anything above (IMO) heavy cruiser or
so... At least with the ones I own. Lots of small craft though. I'm still not
quite sure what to do with the Triple Decker Carrier because of its
size....
