DSII for WWII,

hmm I think there is some stuff on the web for that, but I would recomend that
you play Spear Head instead, its a really good set of Divisional
(+)
level wargames rules, very quick play, really smooth mechanics etc.

What would be really great would be to adapt Spearhead rules to use Dirtside
II equipment and technology. A SF Spearhead.

Well we're interested in lots of rules sets, but from what I've read about
Spearhead, it's not really an analog to DSII. DSII is a Battalion level game,
and Spearhead is a Divisional level game. Just a tad different. Plus DS has
the advantage that I already have it, whereas I don't have Spearhead.

I found somebody's DS II WW II rules, printed them out. I thought they were
well thought out and realistic. It included rules for half-tracks (which
I had already been contemplating), as well as main guns. It also gave me some
ideasfor dealing with more primitive c3 capabilities. I wish I remembered the
address.

Especially if it's a divisional level game - it would certainly be nice
to have a tier of ground combat above DS II.

There was an article published in issue #80 of The Courier magazine titled
"Dirtside II Variant for WWII" by David Hornung. He adds rules for LVC, MVC,

vehicle conversions for many US, German, and Soviet vehicles.

LVC - Low velocity cannon
MVC - Medium velocity cannon

If you have a subscription to MagWeb, the article is available online from
that resource. www.magweb.com Otherwise, the magazine should still be
available at a good gaming store. I picked up my copy from Brookhurst Hobbies
when I was out in L.A. earlier this year.

My original article on this subject appeared in the SFSFW journal Ragnarok.
The article can be found at

Is this the one you were thinking of Brian?

Bill,

> Well we're interested in lots of rules sets, but from what I've read

Yeah, I suppose so, but the number of figures required are pretty similar and
the mechanics are so nice, they are much more simple and quick play.

Anyway, use HVCs and RFACs and that oughta give you a nice feeling game, but I
find the "roll 1 D6" mechanism easier than the "opposed dice for
hit/miss
followed by chits for damage resolution" mechanism makes for a much quicker
(or larger) game.

Anyway, as I said I think there are some army lists etc on the web, use google
or something
