Nope this loser is one of the pet hates of anyone who hgas any experience
with the real Australia - his sensationalised shows use drugged animals
and
stage managed "stunts" to make such annoying viewing - don't give him
any real credibility

They were relocating a wombat to better quarters. That

Wombats are strong little dudes and can be irritable when mating season comes
around or if some wannabe with a camera crew tries to drag them out of
their burrows - one of my staff was fishing near Canberra last week and
had a run in with a wombat which growed and mock charged him several times
until he had the good sense to leave to little guy to his search for a mate.

> They *do* like playing Bulldozers and bumping you in the ankles to

As would any other wild animal disturbed in their natural habitat -
there have been several deaths attributed to wombats caused by people craling
into their burrows and getting crushed by a wombat forcing them against the
roof of the burrow.

G'day guys,

> As would any other wild animal

My Granddad equated going down a wombat hole with playing Russian rullet

with a shotgun;)

They're friendly as little guys, playful and affectionate, but come adulthood
its a rare wombat that stays even tempered... even our "cute" fauna is less
than pleasant in reality;)

As an aside, perhaps moderately on topic, I believe there was a Brit
recoilless rifle called a Wombat. Originally mounted on two wheels and dragged
around, it was later mounted on a Land Rover, I think.

I was designed mid-WWII, right? I think it lasted in service til late
40's.

I'll see if I can find the mag I was reading that mentioned it.

Might be worth thinking about for a new somewhat lower tech weaponed vehicle.
Did the US ever mount RR's forward pointing on jeeps? I think I remember
seeing them in action down at Ft. Riley, KS.

It was the WOMBAT; Weapon Of Magnesium, can't remember the rest of this.

I believe it was a later development; 50-60s. It's mentioned in a book
back home, complete with picture and vital stats. Unfortunately won't see the
book until Dec. 22d, so not much use right now.

I remember seeing on the news jeep mounted RR being used in Viet Nam. Usually
they were shown being fired pointed out the sides. I don't recall them fired
out the front or rear.

I have a vague memory that the BAT stood for 'Battalion Anti Tank', and the

They were 106 mm recoiless. My Natl Guard Unit had just got rid of them for
TOWs when I joined. (Our platoon SGT had been in the unit when they had water

Reminds me of our supply sergeant when I was in the Guard @ 1982, 2 stars on
his CIB, and he had not gone to Vietnam.

Sort of reminds me of my boss--he piloted UH-1s in Vietnam and is still
(as
a WO) in the NG--and says his goal is to be the oldest goggle-qualified
helicpoter pilot in the Guard.

Yes those guys sure have some stories. Course they are very difficult to pry
out. Many beers helps.
