Subject: Which B5 rules to use

I want to run a FT B5 game but with all the available B5 adaptations out there
I don't know which to use.

For those of you who have tried out the various variations, which is the best?
I just would like to get a general idea of which one is most popular so I can
learn that one instead of reading them all.

And in your answer please give a short reason why you like a particular
version.

Thanks in advance.

I like mine 'cause....umm, I made em?? ;-)

No, seriously, the only rules I've used have been mine (mostly) and Tom
McCarthy's (recently). I think that my base rules are pretty much done and
fine, but there are some things i want to tweak. Tom's Shadow rules are very
very similar to what I had in mind on expanding my Shadow rules (which are
currently unfinished in my B5 var rules set).

I like Tom's rules, I like mine. I can't talk about the others since I haven't
had any experience with them (yet?).

As for which is most popular...ummm, I think that you may be unknowingly
asking a slanted question, since Tom's rules set just recently came to
fruition, Mark S' rules were just recently created, and mine have been around
for over a year and a half or so (and have seen fairly extensive PBeM gaming
from the group here in the past year or so). Before Tom's and Mark S'
variants, there weren't a lot of other ones out there being used that I am
aware of. Aside from mine, and that was only because I was running games (RL
and PBeM) using them.

Hope that helps and didn't confuse/cloud the issue much.

With mine Instead of making new weapons I gave the individual races firing,
damage and defense bonuses based on tech level. You do NOT want to face
Mimbari AA megabttys in a EA cruiser. I also have telepath rules that the play
group thinks are nice. My shadow rules take a completely different direction
than most others. I just mailed my rules to mark to see if he would be so kind
as to put them on his web page. My suggestion is to take all of them and pick
and choose the rules you want to use out of each one.

Further playtesting seems to show mine are playable, but need work.

Energy mines have been outrageously effective, to say the least. They probably
need to drop the top two dice each inch out from the centre.

A few other things may also need to change.

Good luck
