For those of you who play Stargrunt, what scale do you prefer and why? I am
trying to decide what scale to get into and am flip flopping. The larger 25mm
scale is better for painting obviously and detail. However, 6mm would be easy
and quick to paint and play, and cheaper apparently as well. Also, are both
scales played on the same sized table?
Thanks

Well, despite being a 6 mm fanatic of the first water I will admit that I have

Gracias,
Are all of the SG line of minis available for each scale?
Thanks

Yes, GZG does all 3 scales. My preference, 15mm. All of my other periods are
15mm which allows me to use the same terrain (as well as potential for
cross-over games!). Roco and Matchbox vehicles look good beside the
15s, so that kit bashing is easy.
Table size: obviously what fits in your space with room to move around the
edges:). 4x6 seems to be a good compromise for DS or SG (4.8 x 7.2km in DS,
480x720m in SG).

Yes and no. GZG makes 6mm, 15mm and 25mm figures but that's not a guarantee
that all figures are available in all scales. For example, Jon has 6mm and
25mm Islamic Federation troops, but not 15mm yet. So....I just get FSE 15mm's
and paint them in IF colors.
Michael, what are you using for miniatures at that scale? In that GZG
catalogue I notice they have some infantry but no vehicles....

Anyone here familiar with the Game Centurion? It's probably not printed
anymore but I have the original box set and it came with all these little
plastic hover tanks. I am wondering what scale they might be in. Each one is
about an inch long, or so.
Thanks

Probably 1:285th scale (same as BattleTech, from the same publisher). I just
bought some of these myself (the lead versions), but the scale isn't stated.
You can see what's available at
http://www.pfc-cinc.shoppingcartsplus.com/page/page/301659.htm
15mm (@1/100 scale) troops, Roco and Matchbox are usually HO (1/87). A
lot of
my 15mm SF are 20+ year old Martian Metals and Ral Partha. But there is
a bunch of it out there (as well as any other era).

Hi folks,
I do Stargrunt in 25mm exclusively, partly because I like the figures better
(Jon's 15mm's are very good, but they just don't give me the same aesthetic
pleasure that the 25's do, though the 25's are much more work to paint), and
partly because when I got into SG, I already had lots of
25mm+
suitable terrain. Also, once I started hearing about the 15's, I already had
too much invested in the 25's... I've got upwards of 10 platoons of *painted*
25mm SG figs now, not to mention the vast hordes of unpainted
stuff..... :)
If I was starting into the hobby *now*, I would be very tempted to consider
15mm, as the figures are indeed quite good, there is a decent selection of
15mm vehicles from various manufacturers, and both infantry and vehicle
models are significantly less expensive than 25mm. Oh - and the scale
in the game matches the figures better than at 25mm, though that is by far the
least important point for me; I've never had any problem with the figure scale
vs. ground scale abstraction.
As someone else has said, GZG has all three scales available, but the
selection in 25mm is *vast*, and much larger than the other two (for infantry
in particular).
SO, if you want less expense, go for 15mm, if you don't mind the extra cost
and like the aesthetics, go for 25mm. (And I'm not a fan at all of
6mm...
while I recognize all the benefits of that scale such as closer
figure-ground scale accuracy, much lower expense, and much faster
painting time, it just doens't do it for me aesthetically at all. That's just
me though, and not an attempt to rekindle the great scale debate:)
Is everything GZG offers in all three scales located in their downloadable
catalogue? In that they have plenty for 25 and 6mm but barely anything for
15mm.

There are about a couple of dozen packs of 15mm figures but only one
vehicle - if you want vehicles you'll have to either scratchbuild or go
to someone else (or, as most people do, have a bit of both). Each
infantry pack has four or five poses in it - usually a commander, two
different heavy weapons troopers and two line troopers (2-3 of each) in
an 8-man infantry pack, or 6 identical figures with various weapon
combos in a PA pack.

Tony is too modest. ;-) Brigade Models offers a fairly
sizeable selection of 15mm vehicles. They match up very well with GZG's
infantry packs (I haven't seen the lone GZG 15mm vehicle yet, so can't comment
on that). I also use a few 15mm vehicles from DLD Productions, and the
odd dozen or two Corgi/Matchbox/HotWheels/JohnnyLightning/
Maisto/whatnot vehicles. Those are relatively inexpensive
(well, except for Johnny Lightning and Corgi; Maisto stuff
is the best of these at ~$2/vehicle), and doesn't take much
to repaint (if you even want to repaint; I've several air squadrons of Maisto
helicopters for my 15mm forces, as well as a company each of M1A1s and
Bradleys, the latter two which are undergoing repainting [mainly because I
don't like their colour schema and the whole red GIJoe label on
the sides ;-) ] ).

I thought that was Beth? Indy's is a PTorp with no fire control, yes?

No. I'm not restricted to just ptorps. Recall Tomb's ECC scenario a couple
years back, "A Grey Day To Die". I'll let Tomb elucidate. The ECC quote page
from the same (if it's still out there; I have no way to check right now)
recants I think several quotes from said game between Tomb and my die rolling.

I know the archives probably say more about 6/15/25-28mm, but I must
admit I've been a 15mm player for some years and prefer it (in SG using the
same
groundscale as for 25mm) as it looks and feels balanced to me on-table.
I've even run a few SF participation games in 15mm (but it's not ideal as
you frankly don't get the visual figure-impact). Whilst there a few
good-looking 15mm figs and vehicles out there, they are far outnumbered
by
the 6mm and 25mm brigade - who are absolutely spoit for choice with some
fantastic stuff.
If you're looking for variety, then don't touch 15mm.
Well, after everyone's input here is what I have decided to do! For Dirtside I
am going to go with the 6mm obviously. I have tons of stuff already for it so
no problems really there. For SG, I have decided to collect on a large scale,
15mm miniatures. I am aware, for the most part thanks to you guys on this
list, that the range isn't there yet from GZG but hope to see more from them.
For now I can go to scratch builds and other lines for vehicles. I will also
be collecting a small force of 25mm figs, I am picking some up anyway for a
homebrew game and figure a couple of more platoons should cover me when I game
with other people on that scale. Fortunately most of my locale fellow gamers
don't game SG yet so I can encourage them, after running some demos, etc, to
go with the 15mm;) line as well!
Thanks Jason

and it looks like a big '1'!
PS - Indy, watch for an event card in FMA
Sheep with your name on it.
