Er...pardon this odd and silly question, but...what the heck is a Narn Bat
Squad?
A squadron of bats from the planet Narn? A squad of aliens called Narn, armed
with bats? A squadron of a certain classification of spaceship? An
alien sports team? Or maybe it's one of those acronyms that some GZG VIP was
going to compile into a FAQ PDQ...
(Hmm, aren't "Narn" one of the alien races from Babylon 5? Or am I thinking of
something else? I don't know, I never got into the show...)
Um, any answers would be appreciated. (That is, any _polite_ answers
would be appreciated.)
Even silly ones.

At one time in the Babylon 5 series Narn are used as additional security
personal on B5. So sometimes when things get out of hand or too silly we call
in the NBS.
Enjoy,

It also refers to a rather chilling scene involving a Centauri, a group of
Narns, some bats, and gospel music.

were releasing music compilation disks. But the ones I have seen haven't had
that song.

The reference is from rec.arts.tv.babylon5.misc. During the series
opening season, the horrific malt-liqour beverage "Zima" was advertising
on the show. They even had a neon Zima sign on a bar set. Zima, if you
remember, had those ads with the guy in the stupid hat who
would replace his "s"-es with "z"-s. J. Michael Straczynski, the shows
creator, posted a message to r.a.t.b5.m where he imagined a scene where the
Zima pitchman is on the station. He says "Zo, Nice Ztation" to Cmd. Sinclair,
and is then promptly beaten to pulp by a bunch of baseball bat wielding Narn.
Thus the Narn Bat Squad is born. It is unleashed on anyone who posts a
particularly bad pun or joke onto the newsgroup. Through the magic of
the Internet, the phrase has spread to other sci-fi related net-haunts.
Yep -- the title of the episode is the same as the song: "And the Rock
Cried Out, No Hiding Place." Now finding the episodic disc may be bit more
difficult.

There was an episodic CD for this episode. IIRC, however, it was done as a
special offer from b5 magazine so I'm not sure it will be possible to find it
anywhere now.
blastit!
I had hopes...

Don't give up hope. It's true that it was a special offer, but the only thing
special about it (at least at the time) was that it was being offered in B5
Magazine some time before it was being offered to the general public. The more
immediate problem is that it's more difficult to find the CDs at all now.
Maybe with SciFi Channel picking up the series they will also start offering
the merchandise through their site.
