It never ceases to amaze me the experience base on this list.
Off the top of my head, I list (I've only attached names to the ones that I
recall)
- The Game Designer <St. Jon>
- His Acolytes <Mike Elliot and some other good folks>
- A computer game designer <W'kan of Narn>
- An Spec Ops door-kicker <Los>
- An AT weapon designer <Oerjan>
- A PysOps team leader
- An AWACS crewman
- A SAM commander
- Grunties/Groundpounders/Gropos/PBI of various flavours <Owen and
others>
- Astronomers
- Mountain Climbers
- Marine Biologist <Beth!>
- IT Professionals <a bunch of us>
- Too many Tom's to be entirely reasonable <Granvold, Anderson,
Barclay, McCarthy, Pope, and no doubt some others>
- Veterans of the militaries of Canada, USA, Australia, Germany,
several other european powers, UK
- Navy Carrier Crew
- Math and science majors galore
- At least one Illuminated individual
- A man from NY that claims to bathe rarely.... <Jon D> ;)
I've no doubt missed many more of our ecclectic group, but it strikes me there
are probably few other games systems that can claim such a varied list of
followers. Nor such a base of experience in just about every facet of military
and civilian life from which to draw, nor the mental horsepower or computer
capability to simulate, test, examine and often break just about any proposed
game mechanic.
Really, its quite neat if you sit and think about it. And the fact we've sort
of come together from all over the world. 50 years ago, this wouldn't even
have been feasible. Sobering, really.;)

You can add caving (aka 'spelunking', but kinda out of use in the caving
world) to the list. ;-) (anyone besides me and Aaron Teske have
caving experience?)

(Oh, as well as Desktop Publisher and Web Designer...)

Actually I thought the opposite, a great excuse to get drunk:-)

We see the diversity of the group that has attended the GZG East Coast
Conventions and the level of sportsmanship and competitiveness that is
represented there.
Erik Kochte had brought his WH40K stuff with him at the last convention and
fully intended to play with them if the GZG gamers were an obnoxious bunch of
pinheads. (His GW stuff stayed in their boxes, with the exception of the
figures that entered the miniatures contest.)
Don't mess with JP when he asks for identification. He's been known to fire a
DFFG at APCs carrying Company lawyers.
Mike Sarno comes to a convention knowing no one and no rules to any of the
games and has a blast. He's already signed up to run two events next year.
Jim Bell is quite the competitor when he's after heads during the French
Revolution game Guillotine. It was quite satifying for his gaming group when
Jim and I mutually destroyed each other's battleships in a head-on pass.
Stuart Murray really doesn't want to be Shogun.
I've had some very satisfying gaming memories after I begun playing Full
Thrust,
Thomas: Good list, just ONE little correction:
> - An AWACS crewman
also, a Munitions Systems Technician, (I build bombs for a living) plus
various and
sundries that come with a 20+ year military career :o)
Ain't the internet great?

don't forget the inexperience base - enough of us know little enough
about enough things that we ask questions which let the wiser ones show off,
er, exercise their knowledge.

ah, now, this is true. i have observed that there appears to be a new Tom,
identifying himself as 'Tom B' and possessing the address kaladorn@home.com;
i'm not quite sure if this is an old Tom under a new name, or a new Tom
altogether (such is the internet). if he could
enlighten me/us, i shall add him to the GZG Tom-files, and allocate him
a part of the world to rule after we, the bearers of the Holy Name, assume
control of the earth.:)

tom
Don't forget auto racing!

The only other games that I can think of are Starfire (it seems that part of
this list is there) and Traveller.
-Stephen, I'm back, I hope.
