I think the general consensus for my question about drives was Option
B -- ie we have about three in favor and none vocally opposed.
Option B was: No FTL for Tier 3; Hyperspace for Tier 2; Jump points (mostly
natural, maybe a few articial) for Tier 1

Sounds good to me.

Tier 3 have to be "discovered"

Tier 2 "bump" into the big boys

Tier 1 "uplift/exploit" 2 and 3 or wait for 2 to trespass

I'm thinking of my group as being Tier 2, having lost the terminus to their
local gate. After the long night they are starting to expand beyond their
cluster, raiding tier 3 worlds and hearing rumors of the Tier 1 worlds.
