You can play quite happily with FT for years.

MT adds a few systems (none necessary) and two alien races (neither balanced
point-wise against the human ships).

FTFB1 adds vector (Newtonian) movement, an improved (but more complicated)
ship design system, and very different designs and design philosophies for
each of the 4 major human powers, and some new systems. MT is probably not
needed to upgrade to FTFB1, either. (While MT is out of print, other players
will probably answer your questions to get you over the hump).

FTFB2 is currently predicted for April, 2000. It will revamp the two alien
races from MT and add a third. You will probably need FTFB1 to enjoy FTFB2.

Selling a "dead" game around here is rather difficult, and if part of the
rules are out of print that will class it as a dead game.

By who? Not Jon, certainly...

Some us on the list will be seeing Jon at Partizan on Sunday. Perhaps we could
gang up and ask him when it's _really_ due (and then duck to avoid the
inevitable fist thrust in our direction)

Well, to allay all the spurious rumours (and to avoid being hassled by Tony
on Sunday.... <grin>) I can say that Tom is right, and FB2 is _really_
due
for a UK launch in April (hopefully 1st. April, for Salute - and no
April Fool comments please, we didn't pick the date for the show...). This is
all assuming that Real Life (TM) and everything else will leave me alone long
enough to finish it.....

Tony wondered:

Yes, actually by Jon.

....or did he just say "April"?

Not to begin with, no. There are a bunch of snazzy new weapons, fighter types
and rules in it, but they're all optional. The most important one
- the revised fighter mechanics (but not the differentiated fighter
types) - has been re-made in Fleet Book 1 (FB1) anyway, and the Aliens
are undergoing complete revisions and will soon be published in Fleet Book 2.

> And what about the Fleet Book? It sounds good to have all the ships

You want Fleet Book 1, but not so much for the ship designs themselves as for
the ship design rules (and some updated other rules as well). The FT2 ship
design rules have some major flaws, so FB1 replaces them with a completely new
set which works a lot better. Still not perfect of course, but the flaws we've
found so far range from very minor to minor (and I believe the least minor one
will be adjusted in FB2).

The ship designs in FB1 are nice, but hardly necessary - it's not as if
they are "official" and someone will have pointed comments or disallow you
from playing if you use other stats for them <g>

I fully endorse Alan's recommended order of buying Full Thrust stuff
:-)

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, I present to you the first damning piece of
evidence in the case of "The GZG List vs St Jon of Needham Market" on a charge
of
"Failing To Release Fleet Book 2". The above e-mail transcript shows
quite categorically how the aforementioned St^2 Jon deliberately misled the
members of the list into thinking that FB2 would be finished in time for
Salute.

Furthermore, at Partizan in Newark on 13th February this year, I did indeed
'hassle' St^3 Jon over the release of said book (from, it must be said, a safe
distance and ensuring that the GZG trade stand was between us) and he repeated
his scandalous claim that FB2 would be ready on time.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, the evidence is compelling - I rest my
case.

<rewind to present day>

Of course the above is all a nightmare and isn't going to happen, is it?

All right! There are some serious talk going on on this list. About 200 mails
in three days! Whao, great I don't have to work anymore, just read mails. A
good enough excuse I think...

Thanks EVERYone for your good and helpfull answeres to my questions. It seems
I'm not only impatiently awaiting to buy FB1 and more ships, but also soon
FB2, with aliens!
(Ship-wise I'm only interested in the Kra'Vak,
the other being either silly or obscene :-). Though on
the goodside I love the new UNSC ships. I plan to use them as my NAC fleet. I
think playing UN in a wargame is like playing
social worker in a game of "Cops and robbers" :-)
Seriously I don't think any of my playing buddys will choose the UNSC as their
fleet. But I can see them being used in special scenarios or better, as umpire
used fleet in a campaign.

Thanks again
