Subject: Up late Scott? More on counters/base marking...
Scott the Savant sayeth: From: ScottSaylo@aol.com Subject: Re: Marking Figure Bases << ** well, it's be easy except it wouldn't show up once the base had been mounted on a washer, puttied, and flocked with grass-like flocking. I'm not being strictly sarcastic here - but many people flock their bases and the idea of letting them be painted or marked is uncomfortable. > [quoted text omitted] It doesn't have to be paint. I flock my bases, too; however a couple green-yellow seed beads would do the same. Anything to delineate the fron arc. A couple ballast "stones" a crumb or two of lichen - anything. ** I suppose - mind you, don't you think that putting coloured beads on would be either 1. a little bit time consuming (esp to make them a mount that would last) and 2. perhaps a little unaesthetic? The idea with stones might be viable. (I can just see the enemy marksmanship instructor "Pvt. Bill, see those two little stones there - aim between them - you'll always hit your target..."). I think lichen would be a bit much. If you can't eyeball the front of the figure, the deliniation of arc through the centre of the figure and through a little tuft of lichen would be... interesting and I suspect contentious. (No, No! The bush clearly points in such a way as to include the target figure! - Does Not! - Does Too! etc.....). Stones might work though, as you said. Anyway, I think Jon has to produce some sort of OW counter for the game (there are a lot of temporary counters in SG2 including ones I've never exactly known what they were used for...?) and it may as well have an arc on it. If you and I don't want to use em, we can mark up our bases or (as I plan) make some mylar templates. The counters will always be there for those who are happy with counters on their boards. Though another interesting question is where do you reckon arc from even then.... the counter or the figure? that is to say, even with a 90 deg triangle or arc on the template, the centrepoint will be forward of the centre of the counter enough to omit some part of the arc the fig could actually cover. Unless you have the latitude to deploy this counter behind the figure, then your arc might be well represented. (When I say behind, I mean behind the figure (touching it) facing "through" the figure, thus the 90 degree arc is going to pretty much cover what the character could fire at). I'm outta here for today:) <everyone sighs with relief>
