Hello all, I am looking to unload some UNSC ships to fund a puffing up of my NI fleet. Anyone who is interested please email me off list.

Anyone got any advice on how to build these so they're solid? The multi-parts on some of the bigger ships are a real nightmare. i keep on wondering if I should drill and pin them. Cheers,

It wasn't easy to get the hole all the way through some of the parts but I made it work. Now that I have a drillpress, it would be easier if I had to do it again.

At the same time however, I've just glued the boats together with some superglue from Games Workshop (only decently priced product of theirs that actually delivers!) and I've found them to be particularily sturdy models.

That said, I am now very much an advocate of using superglue accelerator - the aerosol stuff that you squirt sparingly on to one part, put the glue on the other, bang 'em together and ZAP!!, they're stuck solid - just like we all used to assume that superglue was SUPPOSED to work when it was first introduced! <G> I put the new NI ships together for the photos and displays with this stuff, and I'm now wondering how I ever managed without it....

I use a 5 minute, 2 part epoxy to attach the pieces one at a time. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries, but eventually they seem to be tightly bonded. Getting them aligned correctly though....

And thanks to everyone else who's responded to this question. Cheers,

It's so good that I'll probably be ordering some cans of the accelerator to sell alongside the glue. I believe there are various other brands on the market that are probably just as good - try a decent local model shop if you have one. > Well, the glue is the TUFLOC (no relation!! <G>) brand that we sell at In my own experience, CA accelerator tends to weaken the bond -- the superglue is more "brittle" when it cures. I generally use it to tack things in place, and then strengthen the bond with more glue afterwards. This is with Zap-a-Gap brand CA glue and accelerator, so different formulations may have different effects. One thing for certain: the fumes from the Zap Accelerator could knock a buzzard off a dung heap at 30 paces. I make damned sure to use the stuff in a very well-ventilated area. A friend of mine couldn't use it at all; one whiff of the stuff would give him an instant skull-splitting headache. 'course, it's been months since I've done any miniatures work. Living in babyland now, I've been spending most of my "free" time trying to catch up on my sleep. By now, my superglue has probably turned into solid masses.

> You also want to make sure that you wash your hands Given that it's cyanoacrylate, I'd expect it to have something like that; on the other hand, given that superglue was originally developed as surgical glue, I wouldn't expect it to be toxic in a topical application. Of course, it will stick your skin together. Should be able to get an MSDS from the manufacturer if needed.

My warning however was in regard to the use of the accelerator I am not sure if the glue contains any. Also my warning was in regards to ingestion rather then it being applied topicly. Actually I am not even sure if cyanide will effect a human unless its ingested.

Ain't that the truth brother... Anyone else swear that a few more years of this hobby and they'll have no more fingerprints? Then again, my superglue uses aren't limited to just miniatures...
