Does anyone have a picture of the UNSC Strike Cruiser, FT-1118?

Not that I know of. Give me a few days and I'll add a picture to the UNSC Beta
page. I got a couple Strike Cruisers thanks to Jon at the ECC so I'll get them
assembled and based by this weekend at the latest.

I got my UNSC order yesterday, so I've got it sitting in front of me right
now. The strike cruiser has the front end of a destroyer with a "wing" the
size of a heavy cruiser (bit different configuration) and a two engine setup
 identical to the BDN/SDN.

Not as good as a pic, but the general description of the CS is the front of a
DD, the wings of one of the CE variants, and a pair of the cruiser engines in
back.

OK, I got the kids out of my hair for a while and got my Strike Cruisers built
and based and then took some pics.

It is up on the UNSC Beta-test page and I also put up some better pics
of a couple other ships while I was at it.

Now I just need to get these and the rest of my UNSC fleet primed and painted.

Thank you very much. The new pictures were a great help.

I could have used these last week, when I was trying to ID what I got in my
fleet buy. At least you confirmed that I figured it out right. :-)

So, this brings me to a question about the UNSC minis. It seems clear from the
pics that the main "wing" in front of the engines goes horizontal unless there
are multiple large wings. It also seems that the bracket for the

engines should be horizontal. What's the proper orientation for the engines
themselves though? All of the engines for the cruisers on up seem to be the
same, so presumably they should be installed the same. So, should they be in
"diamond" formation with one point of the engine up, or should they be in
"square" formation with a flat edge up?

Mainly because the hole for mounting the stand is normally in this section.
Otherwise you could mount them vertically if you liked.

Would work okay for the strike and light cruises but the forward hull might
obscure the weapons pods on the heavy and escort. Not good to have your main
weapons firing straight into the back of your bridge.

'should be'? Whose minis do you think these are?

Mine are all vertical.

With the exhausts pointing backwards. ;-)

I mount mine in "diamond" formation.

I don't think there is a "right" way of doing them so do it what ever way you
think looks good. When I built my fleet, I pondered these same questions. In
the end I decided to make them more horizontal than vertical if I had the
choice how to mount things. Then I rotated the engines so they are in a
diamond formation as you put it. Why? I don't know,. maybe to give the ships a
bit of variation.

When Fleet Book 3 shows up, there will be an image of each ship that might be
kinda 'official' but I don't think anyone here would be upset if you built
them differently. Hell my BC is different than official as I don't like the
command section for that mini and I had an extra BB, so I cut off the chin of
the BB command section and glued on some greebles (a model builders term for
misc detail bits from who knows where) where the AMT tubes are mounted and
used it instead. If you think that is bad, don't even dare to look at Jim
Bell's UNSC fleet. Though I think he built at least one of every ship using
the 'official' combination of parts, he has built a bunch of ships with unique
combinations of those modular parts.

So have fun and build what you think looks good.

I know, but I like to build things the way they were "designed" to be, so I
like to ask if they were designed to be one specific way. Of course, if that
way is significantly less good looking to my eye, then I'll do it my way, but
I do like to be consistent with a fleet. I'd never quibble with people doing
it their own way though. :-)

I assumed those were class 1 graser batteries given that they ships they came
with come in AMT or Graser 1 variants...then again they could be the ships
head's of course...

Ooooo, well away from the superstructure, and outlets pointing aft.

Captain wants the nether regions of the first crew that flushes during a
course correction!

There are photos of the ships in our pdf catalogue (<www.gzg.com>, "downloads"
page), which show the way we put our display ones
together - I suppose that's as "official" as you'll get. BUT, as
others have remarked, the UNSC ships were deliberately designed to be
assembled in any way you choose. FWIW, our FT1118 Storm class display mini has
the "wing" horizontal and the engine mount vertical....

Just generic weapon turrets, to add a bit of variety.... ;-)

So you admit you're trying to drive me crazy then? :-)

Ok, if there wasn't a specific way they were designed to look, I'll do it my
way.
