Hi folks, my first time posting.
Ive just been buying some UNSC ships (given the special offer etc) as I
really like the look of them, very spaceship like! So, I thought Id seek out
some opinions on my ideas for them as no supplement is available for them. Im
guessing this has been discussed many times before
As a design philosophy, I had reckoned on having the ships tipped in a
defensive role, screens and extra hull plating, with only a few ships designed
as purely offensive (strike force ships). I thought a defensive
role would fit with some of their back-story policing the core
systems.
Ive read that people tend to think of the UNSC fleet as technologically well
off, so I figured I would also add a little extra mass to be used on each
ship, to increase the NPV over the average for other human ships. This gives
me an above average cost and mainly defensive role fleet.
For a colour scheme, I had planned to paint them very very light grey (neutral
colour), with patches of light blue (current peacekeeper helmet colour) over
the main body. Some black for fuselage etc.
As Im still fairly new to FT (I have a NSL fleet thought), I was hoping to
get some comments or input from others who use the UNSC fleet and see if my
above ideas sound sensible enough to give the fleet a UNSC feel.
Cheers Ched.

I too favour a heavy defence philosophy for UNSC ships. Usually around 40%
hull on the larger classes, 30% on cruisers and escorts, screens rather than
armour. My designs are tailored primarily to stand up against Human rather
than Xenoc ships in the late Third Solar War/first Xenoc war period.
Good active defences to deal with salvo missiles would seem likely, as would a
good provision of fighter bays on capital classes. Pulse torps seem to be good
weapons for UNSC vessels, but on larger ones I do favour a couple of class 4
beams in 3 arcs (but thats my own private fetish).
If this list has taught me one thing is that it is only sensible to design the
vessel according to the movement system you use. If you use vector movement
then single arcs on heavy beams and torps make the most sense, if you use
cinematic movement then multiple arcs on your heavy weapons is probably the
most sensible way to go. (I dearly hope I got that right, the last time I
asked about this sort of thing I unintentionally ignited a minor flame war
between some of the more learned memebers of the list, for which I apolgise).
There is a lot of extremely inspirational info regarding the UNSC on Indys FT
site if you haven't checked that out already.
Colour wise I've always envisioned white hulls with light blue bits on (the
usual modern UN clour scheme), but then again I figure paints schemes for any
ship in the Tuffleyverse is down to the owner of the mini to decide
;-)

Here's one guy's take on the UNSC...

You did, yes <g>
(And my apologies as well for taking obscure game features for granted, when
new players hadn't had a chance to discover them yet!)
