But as regards the painting, it's easy.

thin white acrylic undercoat, followed by extremely thin enamel black wash,
followed by thick white acryllic drybrush.
The photo was taken under dim light to try to reproduce the effect seen in
some stills from the movie "Star Trek II"

You may want to try that waash in something more like primer-grey
instead of black, then white drybrush, then a white wash over everything.
Depends on how intense you want the shading to be.
Can any of you identify the names of these ships for me? I'm pretty sure the
top one is called 'Northampton class' or somesuch but I'm not sure. Haven't a
clue about the other pair.
