Hey all:

I'd like to put together a separate e-group for those who'd like to
discuss using Stargrunt II and Dirtside II for games set in the Traveller
universe. Would anyone be interested?

Later,

Count me in. I already use FT for my non-canon Traveller universe and
sort of use DS also...

Great idea Mark!

I'll pass. Not to be a heretic - but I never found the local Traveller
games all that much fun.

Not sure it warrants a separate group. I have always seen GZG games as
Traveller "based". I've started to work up some of the Mercenary tickets for
SG and DS minicampaigns, I guess I need to finish.

I was thinking similarly, though less on the Traveller based part. Certainly
influenced, but the systems are sufficiently generic to ascribe the above to
'eye of the beholder'...

No D&D cracks, please. ;->=

This list has always been welcoming of Traveller descriptions from what
I've seen; I've still yet to put to the test the Imperium-to-Full-Thrust
conversions, though.

I'm not so sure that Traveller and DSII/SGII is an easy a match as some
may think. Look at how much tinkering was done to Full Thrust in order to
create Power Projection. How does one take the various tech levels into
account for vehicle construction? What about weapons? For instance. you can't
just say a DSII DFFG is a Traveller fusion gun since the latter has a much
longer range than the former. Vehicles in Traveller have variable movement
rates; no such thing in DSII. How about taking Striker Stats and converting
them to FMA? How does SGII handle that platoon of Imperial Marines armed with
FGMP 15s and wearing grav belts? How do you play out Zhodani psionics and
warbots?

You see my point.

I don't doubt that this list would welcome Traveller discussion, it's just
that I think we should take the discussion elsewhere to avoid clutter. There
are other things people would like to discuss on this list.

Quite right.

Another list is needed for such an effort.

A number of SG2 and DS2 players, who maybe wouldn't be interested in Traveller
per se but who would be interested in the discussions as a "mind game", aren't
going to go to the bother of joining yet another Yahoo group.

I personally think you'd have more luck keeping the discussion here. It's not
like the list is overwhelmed with SG2 or DS2 threads, anyway.

I agree with Mark. I've posted Traveller ideas on this list and received no
replies. I've posted Traveller ideas on this list and received replies. It's
hit and miss.

It would be nice to have a dedicated forum for it. And while we will miss out
on the opinions of people who aren't interested in Traveller, that's a price
I'm willing to pay to get the opinions of people who are
interested in Traveller :-)

If you want to, feel free to use the Traveller_FullThrust list for
this. It's pretty low volume and there's already that GZG/Traveller
link there.

Cheers,
