Hey all:

Along with Traveller, I'm getting REALLY hyped over Transhuman Space. I was
wondering if anyone had any ideas on coming up with a THS conversion for FT?

OK, the best place to start would be:

Interesting. I've been toying for a while with a setting devoid (at the
moment) of FTL travel... this may not fit the bill for me, but it's a start...

I've got the first book in the series, but I haven't studied the ship combat
system or weapon types very closely. Can you provide a brief description of
the types of weapons and manuvering in the TransHuman universe?

Well, ship weapons systems are mainly made up of the following:

Light and Heavy Lasers.
Coilguns that can launch kinetic kill or bomb-pumped x-ray laser
(aka Teller mines) projectiles. Spinal Mounted Particle Accelerators.
Autonomous Kill Vehicles (AKVs) play the role of fighters and, if desperate,
cruise missiles.

Since THS is a "hard" sci-fi setting, ships can use anything from solar
sails, to mass drivers, to fusion and even early anti-matter drives. So
vector movement would be in order. Acceleration for military ships tends to
fall with.1 to.3 G.

Well I can see that this topic has become a yawner. I'm sorry for bringing it
up. From now on, I'll just keep my big mouth shut.

No, not really. I'm interested in hearing any ideas you may want to toss out
regarding the mechanics of the ships and weapons.
(I'm also unable to send e-mail to the list during the day.)

Are you familiar with Keith Watt's Exodus Project? He prepared one or two FT
variant scenarios for the ECC convention based on his science fiction universe
he created. he's not been active with his website lately, but there's some
interesting material.

It's at: http://www.exodusproject.com/

If you have any ideas for THS under Full THrust rules, I'd also be interested.
I very much enjoy the setting, and on my long list of things to get around to
doing is some Stargrunt or Dirtside in the THS setting. (Not to mention some
actual roleplaying. But perhaps using FUDGE instead of GURPS, a topic for
another time & another list....)

I seem to recall that the SJGames folks have tossed around the idea of
using Attack Vector aka Delta-V as the basis for handling THS space
combat, maybe in a supplement. I can't recall where I read it... Maybe the THS
Yahoo! group, or perhaps one of the Pyramid newsgroups.

Huh? I'm lost. A yawner? While it was outside my focus I don't think it was a
yawner... was it?

Hx, SF, and Fx: 6 mm figures, Starships and 1:6K "Wet Navy" warships are my
main interest.

Gracias, Glenn

There are a few things I need to figure out. First of all: How to translate
GURPS's star ship construction rules to FT stats. How to translate the GURPS
thrust into FT thrust. Some weapons will be easy. Others a little more
difficult.
