Subject: TO&E for the major forces

I've decided to build a number of armies for Stargrunt using the new
Dirtside scale miniatures. This satisfies the anal-retentive part of me
that likes the ground scale and figure scale to be about even, and it will be
a lot cheaper and quicker to paint.

Since I've got a lot more buying power now, I'd like to build a full company
for each major power (as infantry packs become available). For starters, I'm
going to make NAC and NSL companies, with all the support equipment and
vehicles.

The Stargrunt rulebook contains a company level listing for the NAC which is
just perfect. However, it only has platoon level listings for the NSL and
others.

Are there any "official" lists for the other forces? Failing that, has anyone
thought up any unofficial (but reasonable) ones? I am interested in reinforced
infantry companies, since I am still nominally playing Stargrunt.

On a related side note, does anyone have a list of what vehicles the various
armies use. Some are detailed in the book but that list is vague in places and
very incomplete.

> From reading and browsing the web site, I've been able to deduce the

--- NAC ---

Phalanx APC (used for PA troops and some infantry) Paladin MBT Hoplite APC
Hunter Tank Killer Striker MRL Artillery Merlin Command Vehicle (no miniature,
but looks like a Hoplite) The Stargrunt book states that they use "a
proportion of grav combat
vehicles" for their first-line strike force. But which ones?

--- NSL ---

Gauntlet GEV MICV (could someone confirm this?) I'd imagine since they're into
the "fast movement" most of their force would be GEV based. The 25mm vehicle
line (and soon the 6mm line) has

lots of GEV vehicles, from MBT's to artillery to transport. Do they have any
grav vehicles in the front line units, or is it all GEV?
The All-GEV theory is supported by the Geo-Hex web site. Most of the
GEV vehicles are painted in NSL colors.

--- FSE ---

Wombat Hover APC It looks like they are into the GEV thing as well, from
pictures on the
  web-site.

--- ESU ---

Seems like they use a mix of vehicles. Possibly the wheeled APC's M37 and M38D
as well as some other "lower tech" wheeled vehicles.

--- All ---

The AV5, AV6 and AV9 seem to be used by all nations. Whie the NSL and FSE
probably uses most of the GEV trucks, I imagine the NAC, ESU and other use the
wheeled versions mostly.

Well, that's what I've come up with so far.

How are you mounting yoru minis? Singly, or by fireteams? I too like the

Not a "Standard" Major Force, but

http://www.angelfire.com/va/basileus/ARMY.html

has complete organization for Nea Rhomaioi militia, borderers, regulars, and
Imperial Guard. From squad level to Corps level, with all necessary equipment.
(Tony, Chris, I finally got around to putting
the Tagmatics up). It's all mostly top-of-the-line stuff: Even the
militia drive GEVs. I'd welcome feedback.

That looks pretty detailed so far. What kind of miniatures do you use for the
heavy tanks and the VTOLs?

Even the engineers are not *this* depraved. This must be the work of the Med.

Hey that's a pretty good page you have there. A fine addition to the GZG
universe. Are the Nea Rhomaioi closely affliated with any of the major parties
or do they do their own thing? Do you know where their territories lay within
human space? ANywhere along the "southern" rim by the NSL?

I use this scale for SG2 for many of the same reasons.. I mount my single
figures on 3/8" washers and then stick them on magnetic stands as fire
teams. This way expidites movement for larger games, and, on small battles or
special situations they can be detached.

Basil I/B: Same Chassis, hexagonal turret with shorter, stubbier gun
Nikephorus Phocas TD: Ditto, with two-weapon turret

I havn't really looked at the starmap in great detail, but they've had wars
with the Romanov Hegemony (finally settled with an abject surrender on the
Romanov part after the Tsar had a stroke. The RH lost
a pair of planets in disputed space), the Islamic Federation (life-long
enemies), the FSE (They snapped up several other worlds in FSE space during
the confusion when the EC broke up, the FSE wants them back), and on occasion,
has border disputes with the ESU on a planet containing both a Rhomaioi colony
(Nea Cherson) and an ESU one. Good relations with the Scandanavian Federation,
and deals with the NAC on
an enemy-of-my-enemy basis.

Since I'm still planning on using the Stargrunt rules (among other things to
playtest for convntions) I will mount them single. Probably
on 1/2" washers or similar.

Y'know, these Nea Rhomaioi bear a distinct resemblance the a particularly
nasty bunch called the Draka, from some of my favorite 'alternate histories'.
I *like* that <big ol' toothy grin>.

I'm afraid I don't see the connection. They have a very, very good military
with very, very good equipment. They don't take any crap off anybody. And
their reaction to terrorism is massive reprisals. I don't see any other
similarities.
