Oh well, fools rush in...
Please note this is based, not on actual knowledge, but the fact my last set
of stupid comments actually seemed to help:
***
1) Last year at Bifrost ('99) I bought a load of what were called
'em-bug's,
bearing absolutely no similarity to the Starship Troopers (film) bugs at all
*ahem*. Since I got these from the GZG stall I assumed that the 'e' stood for
Eureka but I can't find these on his site, does anyone know where I can get
more or will there be some at Bifrost this year? I mean 25mm and don't mean
either of the 3 bugs in the GZG catalogue
2) I am informed that at a convention last weekend (in the UK) there was a
game using these bug figures (possibly) and also using at least one big tanker
bug, anyone know where the big bug came from?
***
GZG has it's own not-STT Bugs; I'm not sure if Paul has a pic on the
site or not.
Could the tanker bugs have been Galoob? I've seen 'em in three different
sizes, and can fit into gaming quite well.
***
Are there any pictures of the OUDF power armored troops? If so let me know
where I can find them.
Also what scale of models do you folks use with the SGII series of
miniatures? Is 1/48th scale best?
***
Ok, now you've done it! If you're going to rekindle holy wars, you are RIGHT
OUT OF HERE!!!
*heh heh*
Actually, I think 'true 25mm' is closer to 1/64th, though certain
apostates
on this list will claim 1/72th or 1/48th. On the other hand, if your
tanks
have to be Evil Empire(tm) steel behemouths, go for 1/35th. A WWII
German
AFV, say an sp-gun or, my favorite, a Maus, can be made into a truly
horrifying monstrosity.
Watch a Baneblade tuck tail and run! ;->=

The problem is that "25mm" is in the eye of the beholder. In general, the
plast ic model manufacturers seem to be a bit better at keeping the scale
accurate th an metal miniatures manufacturers. There was a post on
rec.games.miniatures.his torical about someone who was comparing 25mm US World
War 2 figures to
1/48 sca
le Shermans, and the scale wasn't radically out.
Yes, technically 1/64 is more accurate. However, I rarely see 1/64
except for t he occasional Lledo diecast car (which I've been collecting for
use with Call o
f Cthulhu miniatures). 1/48 scale, though, isn't bad. I've also seen
1/43 scale
diecast cars that are close, too.
It really depends. If possible, a sample mini should be compared to the
finishe d product.

I never bought it, but there are 1/35 scale armoured railroad cars from
World W ar 2 (German, mostly) by one of the Japanese manufacturers. They would
make exc ellent kitbashed grav vehicles.
While we're on the topic, 1/87 Rocco minitanks make very good 15mm
vehicles, le ft alone or kitbashed. I tend to use German vehicles (modern
Marder APCs, or th e latest variant of the Leopard II) as they aren't as
recognizable in North Ame rica.

I meant my words extremely tongue-firmly-in-cheek. I've some 1/48th crew
from a Monogram plane that're head and shoulders higher than GW IG's, but
about 2/3rds the width at the shoulder. And GW's are either 28-30mm, or
the brutish, genetically minipulated freaks in some SGII fluff we've seen
here.
;->=
The usual explanation of 25mm is a one inch tall fig is a 6' man. Course, 6'
wasn't THAT common during WWII, and less so the further you go back. Scale is
confounded by BOTH aesthetics and business considerations. I'll leave out
historical inaccuracies and just plain laziness.

Absolutely, whatever you feel comfortable with, and learn to expect
SOMEBODY laughing at a part of your force. Though, I've found 1/48
aircraft far more plentiful than groppo fodder.
BTW, Lindburgh put out a kit with four WWII tanks in 1/64, which I have
and will someday probably use, but I'm not claiming particular accuracy for
that company, either.
