Subject: THE REAL WORLD MEETS SG II. . . . . .

AHHHH. THE REAL WORLD!

the place where almost a ton of small arms, LMG and HMG projectiles is
required to inflict ONE ENEMY KIA OR WIA TROOPER!

these numbers are not an exergeration, but have held steady since the ACW

a life time ago, i routinely rode open and unarmored M151 jeeps into combat
with enemy ground forces as part of a convoy escort group of MP. driver, me
and a LMG in back.

i also rode into combat in the same vehicles during the TET Offensive. driver
and me most of the time, but occassionally with 2 rifle toting MPs in the back
and no LMG.

a bit later we improvised and added 1/2 inch boiler plate around the
4 seat crew area and this left a very open "top" and armor plate ended at
about shoulder level on a seated man. one in four of the convoy escort M151s
had this mod, and in Saigon a total of 4 jeeps in y company were armored in
this way for "bush patrol duties" along a POL pipeline.

finally we got V-100 armored cars for convoy escorts and highway
patrols, which were much better protected but under armed as issued.

zillions of rounds were fired from smallarms, LMGs, HMG and even RPGs at me
and my crews in the M151s and none of us was ever "hit", although the vehicles
tended to be hit often (by small arms LMG and HMG)

(LOL (grimly) only one RPG hit was required to junk a jeep, or most vehicles
that were not M48 battle tanks)

these are what the USG and US ARMY gave us to ride and fight in if needs be.

WHY WERE WE NOT KIA'ED BY A RIFLEMAN? OR AN AUTOMATIC WEAPON? OR A RPG?

LOL- BECAUSE WE WERE LUCKY, LAYED DOWN SUPPRESSIVE FIRES BIG TIME,
MAINTAINED A FAST TARGET STATUS, PARTIALLY OBSCURED BY WOTEVER, AND THE BAD
GUYS WERE LOUSY SHOTS!

in game turns, their dice sucked, WE HAD HOT DICE, speed, "soft cover" or
partial "soft cover" and etc.

WHY am i writing this?

BECAUSE IT IS A GAME! A GAME WHERE WE BUY PAINT AND PLAY WITH "STUFF" FOR FUN!

and I ALSO happen to like the way those DLD vehicles look, and I ALSO
know that light attack/strike/recon/etc vehicles DO EXIST IN THE REAL
WORLD MILITARIES!

i like them sooooo much, i have sent off to buy 4 of these BADGER LAVs, and am
awaiting the arrival of same.

the ones i have seen with my own MK I EYEBALL are nice toys, reasonably priced
and well liked by their owners.

ditto for the KOMODO variants.

AND I USE 28MM SCALE SOLDIERS.
