For a good laugh.
I received a convention support packet from Wizards of the Coast this week for
the Ground Zero Games East Coast Convention. It had all kinds of information
on running sanctioned tournaments for Magic and D&D and advertising deals. Of
most use for us is the prizes packages that we could get from them.
Just think! Instead of cool UNSC or Islamic Federation ships as prizes we can
be handing out Pokemon packs!

The sad part is that I've seen Pokemon packs going for $4.99us to as high as
$11.99us. For 11 cards per pack.
It's cardboard crack. I've seen 8 year old kids lined up 10 deep, *shaking*,
waiting to buy Pokemon. It's an addiction.

Those packets are a little rough for bumpf.

Yeah, well, now that I think about it, if I had swooped up a box
of 'Fossil' Poke-crack when local store still had some, and you've
got to admire places that refuse to pump price, I could have half this town
playing GZG games, and really cracking a sweat!

I know what you mean; I used to think it was the same for 14 yr olds waiting
for the next new Evil Empire (tm) release, or even me getting some OOP space
ship, but far worse for these little
barely-able-to-understand-the-game kids, worse yet what their
parents allow themselves to have to go through to support their lil' whinners.
*sigh*
I've seen parents able to ride this maelstrom with some style and sensibility.
Actually able to use Pokemon as work tokens,
and get chores done, while working with their kids to under-
stand the whole process. Few and far between...
Anyway, if you could only get the prizes, but not run WotC tourneys, you could
actually turn the dark side to the light.

Around here they call it "paper crack". You see, when you open a pack, you
release an odorless gas which, when inhaled, creates an urge to purchase
*more*

This would be the same gas that Pudding Workshop uses in the air conditioning
of PW stores, and in their own blisters and boxes?
It's about the only reason I can see for otherwise (mostly) rational friends
buying into PW stuff...
I _thought_ I felt strange after the last time I entered a PW store (and
didn't buy anything...):>
