L is for Land Service. Makes a little less sense in a weapon issued to the NAC
Royal (Space) Marines but tradition being what it is, it does not surprise me.

I'm wondering, does this suggest the NAC would have Sx weapons (S1, S2) for
weapons which are designed and built to operate in
space (airless/temp varying/no pressure)?
