There are something like 5 copies of the game on Ebay, can someone who has the
game give me a little info about it? Does it come on a CD or disks?
What does the docs contain in terms of fluf and sub/weapon stats?
-Stephen
I think Subwar 2050 was mostly on 3.5, although it was in the "transitional"
era where stuff was also availble on CD, so you could run into any format
there. The rulebook had several pages of background
material, including a "day in the life of a sub pilot" docu-story. Sub
stats were pretty well fleshed out (similar to WC stats of the same time), and
there were some pretty cool effects to the game (the afore
mentioned boil-and-fire torpedoes, random biological contacts, and even
thermoclime effects to dodge sonar). I had the opportunity to try the game
while I was working for Babbage's, but never actually forked over the dough to
buy it.
Take care,

Cool, I may just get it. Going rate on ebay is $2-3 with $4.50(!) for
S&H.

I have and have played it and can recommend it if you have any interest in the
subject at all. At that price its a bargain, or twice the price even. It had
me absolutly facinated with undersea warfare. It wont have the super
flash modern 3D graphics card stuff but I reckon you'll get alot more than
your moneys worth out of it. In fact at that price I think I'll get another
copy and send it off to my brother.

This game got pretty good reviews when it came out as I recal (I play a lot of
PC wargames...)
The successor in this type of game was called "Archimedean Dynasty" by Blue
Byte. It also got pretty good reviews and has a much deeper story line as I
recal. You can find a reveiw of it at "www.cdmag.com" They used to have a
reveiw of Subwar also but I think it 'dropped off' because it was so old.
I really like this game review site because they WILL tell you when a game is
bad, unlike many other that seem to just love any game the big
developers/sponsors put out.

Archimedean Dynasty was great fun, not least the joy of trying to pilot a sub
capable of 20 knots into a 30 knot current. I have distinct memories of
sneaking up on my target area, priming the weapons, hitting full power,
leaping towards them and then gradually drifting away backwards in the
current.
Nice load of background info that came with it too. I used it as an RPG
setting for a while, sort of underwater cyberpunk.
