Subject: Submunitions questions

Hi, just a few more newbie questions:

How exactly are submunitions targetted?

Relevant to the topic of Gunboat vs Gunboat where there are a huge number of 2
mass and 4 mass ships about, can the submunitions target multiple ships? (My
limited understanding says no.)

Can submunitions target fighters? Is the bulk of the cost of ADAF and PDAF the
targetting systems rather than the actual weapons? Can the submunitions
missile target fighters?

Could you purchase one-shot fighter defenses? At
1/2 the normal cost?

I'm a bit confused about how the Electromagnetic Pulse missile is supposed to
work. Isn't this just incredibly more effective than the needle missile?
The needle missile disables a targetted system 1/2
the time, where the pulse missile has about a 1 in 6 for every single system.

Granted, the needle missile damage is a little more thorough and can't be
repaired but still...

Does the system the needle missile is targetting have to be designated during
launch? (My guess, yes.)

Micheal,
I have always considered the sub-packs to be just another
weapons system functioning off the main FCS.

If you have multiple FCS you can target equal to the number of FCSs on the
ship.

Sub-packs vs fighters - Think of the sub-pack as a salvo of
unguided rockets against a large not very agile target.
(Me262 w/rockets vs B17) The rules say this weapon is designed to
give a small craft the chance to damage a (screened) ship, this infers that
they could not or would not be used against fighters as the fighters are far
to agile to be hit with an unguided rocket.

One shot fighter defences - My assumption here is that you refer to
Kra'vak scatterguns, and the answer is: I know of no FT player who
has ever fielded a mixed tech ship. If this is incorrect,
the answer is no.

Missiles - I think that I'll have to buy my missiles from your
dealer, yours are much better than mine! It would be nice to
designate your target at launch, Yes.

The preceding has been an opinion, not a rule.

Bye for now,

The question was whether you had to specify when launching a needle missile
what sort of system it was going to target. For example, will it target
Screens, Drives, Fire Control, what? Obviously the missile just flies along
until it finds a target within its range that doesn't match its IFF.

I used needle missles on Allan Goodall during the infamous list game
at gen-con...
we played where you declare a system when the missle makes its attack... (i.e.
just before you roll for *daf fire)
