stirred up by childhood memories

Subject: stirred up by childhood memories

When searching through my parents house as they were doing some spring
cleaning I chanced upon two items from my childhood:

1) Anyone remember the game "Fortress America" by Milton Bradley? It isn't too
bad, but the interesting piece here is that the hover tanks for the game look
like they would make pretty good Class 1 or 2 tanks for DSII. And the mech
units would work for wheeled scouts or small APCs. Anyone ever use these
pieces like this?

2) I do not remember the company, but for the longest time my brother and I
would get small boxes of HO scale infantry and snap together vehicles -
mostly WWII but some modern and WWI also. We had thousands of the soldiers
(literally) and several dozen tanks. I found 300+ of the infantry
(variety of poses and nationalities) and maybe 2 dozen useful tanks. I figure
since 15mm works for Stargrunt, why not HO? I remember reading some things
about WWII battles using Stargrunt as a basis, but my cursory search turned up
zilch. Anyone know where I could find something like that?

I've also used the city and lasertower pieces as parts of various building
projects. I have a couple of the APCs primed, but I probably won't be painting
them any time soon.

The old Heavy Gear line was HO scale, but it's kind of hard to track those
models down these days. Someone on the list has, if I remember correctly,
done a WWII conversion for SGII -- Mark Seifert, perhaps? -- but I'm not
sure who. It's out there, though. It's out there....

I actually rather enjoy the game, though tend to fail my objectives regularly.
My idea for a campaign would use a modified FA for the ground combat, and
hoped that Walter's idea of strategic 'battles' generating a fixed set of DSII
scenerios might be worked in. Too bad that never showed much fruit on the
list.

I know of folks that have used the figs, but, as the Renegade Legion and the
old Fortress resin tanks are still fairly available, somewhat easier to take
paint, and better detailed, I always planned on using the extra FA pieces I
have for the strategic board as markers.

Well, plenty of companies made the soldiers, but the only HO vehicles I know
of were the Roco's, and I don't think they ever needed snapping.

Is the unofficial Stargrunt II site running? I thought I heard it was between
IP's. I might well be mistaken, but I think I remember something there on a
WWII conversion.

I always wish I had picked it up. I wanted it for the game, though,
particularly considering how much it goes for on eBay.

It should work just fine!

Yep. Here it is:

Click on the "SG2 to WW2 conversion" link to get a rich text format version of
the conversion rules.

Thanks, all, appreciate the comments and that link should work great.

And it is nice to know that I am not the only one that has thought of using
the Fortress America figures... though I may have to double check
eBay first - since my copy of the game appears to be complete at
present.
