You asked for it, so here goes something on the fly.:)

Full Thrust Formula One
*********************
Standard FT ships are used when racing (including weaponry). The weapons don't
actually cause damage, but act as ECM, chaff, dirty tricks etc. Either use a
race track or set up an obstacle course (anyone every see the Dr Who episode
"Enlightenment"? Sailing ships racing around
planets) using planets/nebula/debris clouds etc.

Movement:
Each ship rolls a d6+thrust. This is the amount of movement available
for that turn (don't add to last turn's velocity). Standard turn restrictions
are in place, but each ship uses available thrust for turn restrictions.
(Potentially, a thrust 2 ship can do a 4 pt turn if they roll a 6).

Combat: Normal firecombat procedures apply, but if possible, ships must
allocate their target during the orders phase (to give some uncertainty), but
no actual damage is recorded (unless you're feeling REALLY nasty). Every point
of damage reduces a ships available thrust next turn by that
amount of damage (ie: 6 pts of damage gives a -6 to the thrust roll).
This should still favour fast escorts, but gives the battlewagons a chance.

Happy racing.

Mary had a little LAM, It's thrusters all aglow; And everywhere that Mary
went, The 'Mechs were sure to blow.

One could use, if available, the board from the game Demon's Run by Yaquinto.
It has all kinds of nice nebula, hazards, etc. Another alternative is
Triplantary's board which has planets and asteriods. Of course each of these
games has it's own racing rules, in fact Demon's Run is only about racing. For
Full Thrust Formula One, just ignore the hexes on the boards.

Enjoy,

Only Canadian NAC units...

Does this mean any British NAC ships have to break down after three laps?

The really ironic thing about this is that I showed up for a BattleTech game
at the local game store this weekend and found that the ref wanted to run
"Death Race 3034." Each team had 4 Patton tanks (I think they were Pattons)
with some of the weaponry replaced with a "supercharger" that acted exactly as
you describe here.

Very enjoyable game -- if a little odd. The winner had two tanks left
who could move, though both were in very bad shape. Of course, everybody
else's were in worse shape (i.e. -- slagged!)!

Tony spake thusly upon matters weighty:

Only if they have Lucas electrical systems ("Prince of Darkness!").
