The latest version of the starmap is up at
http://www.clark.net/pub/nyrath/ft/ftmapmain.html

This is the second one I've put there today, so check to be sure you got the
one that has a date of Feb 13, 1999 MOD 2

The flags now have a standard size, I've added some more requested empires.

I have allocated stars for everybody who asked, but some empire owners have
not yet contacted me. I also need flags for some empires.

I have also updated the empire spreadsheet.

Let me know if you find any mistakes.

Indonesian Commonwealth should use a red pentagon on a white field..

PAU colors might be black, red, gold, green....have to look at some African
flags and see what looks good. I picture them having a device on their
flag, maybe a shield and crossed spears--I'm fairly sure an African
country already has that.

I always thought of the NRE flag as being gold on purple, which would fit in
with the hubris of re-founding the Byzantine Empire (grin) and would
also
keep down the crop of red-and-whites. One of the emperors of the
historical
Byzantine Empire was Constantine Porphyrogenitas--"born to the purple",
more or less.

The Saieed Khalifate would probably go with a green field bearing a gold
crescent and star.

OK, now is there a website out there that goes into the gritty details of
exactally what the various classifications are, and how they would influence
their solar systems? I mean, I've got New Levant (to pick example at random).

It's a k-m star with luminosity .00288. So it's a small, dim, reddish
star, which means the planet is gonna have to be close to the star, etc. On
that level, I'm fine. OBFGKM, right? But is there a place that lays it out in
more detail?

The NRE is extremely casual about such things. Gold on white, Gold on Purple,
Purple on White, White on Purple, all are used more or less interchangably. In
all cases the Purple is a reddish purple. National
insignia tends to have standardized on the Chi-Rho, but even variations
on that are accepted. Remember, the Roman Empire never really got into the
Heraldry thing as strictly as it happened in the West. I guess for the
'official' one (to satisfy the UN, which is mostly run by those
heraldry-obsessed Westerners), it would have to be Gold on White, those
being the colors of the Coat of Arms of the Late Empire (1300s and on).
Eagles, both one and two-headed are used as symbols of the Emperor
himself, not the Empire.:)

the pan-african unity colours are indeed black, red, gold and green, as
used in the flags of guinea-bissau, rwanda, mali, senegal, ethipia (sort
of), etc, and in the african-american flag.

If you want to have a look at a good, simplified system online check out

http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~r-smith/worlds/

Its not strictly accurate but its good at getting fast results. The author has
produced code to do random generation as well
