Hiya Gang!

For those who have Toys-R-Us and Wally World (Walmart): (and play SG2
or FMA Skirmish)

<I'm a fan of toys - they a tough and don't break under use too easily
and look good and have moving parts>

Marine LPT7 (boxed as M113) from MicroMachines/Galoob. About $5-7 US.
Probably a size 3-4 APC. Has MG, SAW or HMG, an AGL and a GMS
launcher.

> From the same line, there are other neat items like an F-4, a big ass

Larger micro machine bradley - don't know what scale - looks like
maybe a bit big. About $12-14 US. Similarly, a C-130 style plane
called a Thunderbolt. Big, but okay for a small transport plane in SG2. Good
for Entebbe raids or Airport battles.

Sand Screamer (aka Hummer) from Masito or Masaito. About 28mm. $3-4
US. Good squad carrier.

Stompers (Los mentioned, I bought, I like) 4x4 - They have a Unimog
kind of truck and an ambulance vehicle that look decently in scale. About $7
US.

Matchbox Mission Bravo stuff: Another Hummer (I think a truck variant with a
missile launcher in the bed). Also an excellent little FAV with
a (sad looking but replaceable) SAW/MG/HMG and a good looking AGL.
About $4-5 US.

In the Mission Bravo line, there seems to be (have not seen it up
close yet though) an Osprey Tiltrotor - though it would need repainted
for spec ops!;) not sure what it would cost.

And if you can get them, my favorite discontinued toys, Galoob Aliens APC ($10
US) and the VTOL ($10 also?).

Civilian Vehicles: Road and Track (the mag) puts out cars with some
toy company - like Vipers, SUVs etc. Some look good enough to use as
civilian vehicles. <Now what kind of movement does a viper on a paved road
execute in SG2? Fast I'd guess...>

Except for these last, the others have all been seen or bought in my local
Wally World.

A sure buy is the Starship troopers Dropship! (www.galoob.com) works well as a
25mm lander..

I actually bought one of the Mission Bravo Jeeps. With about an hour's work, I
turned it into a realistic enough vehicle, with a metal deck and pintle
mounted MG. Add a new paint job, and it looks surprisingly good (realistic).
It is, however, still butt ugly from a purely aesthetic sense. Not all
military vehicles have to be attractive...

The only problem I had is with the axles. Unless you glue the axle in place
(which I would have if my wife hadn't insisted that the stuff be able to roll
around), the paint comes off of its bright shiny chrome surface. Only about a
millimetre* shows, though, so it's not too bad.

The AGL turns into a nice artillery piece if you remove the missile and
replace it with a piece of brass tubing, although the swing out supports that
come with the launcher are mounted in a totally illogical menner..

The figure that comes with it is surprisingly detailed, and benefits greatly
from a repainting. It's made of soft plastic, though, so any bending takes the
paint right off. Better to repaint the guy, stick him in the driver's seat and
leave him there.

All in all, it was a pretty good purchase.

I'm supposed to gain the use of a digital camera in early September, so when I
do, I'll actually photograph all these things, and let you all see them.

Go by your local Sports Authority and get some gun blue solution. Its a great
way to color a iron based piece of metal. Do not get it on your hands. It will
not eat the plastic though. Its essentially an acid that
creates a sacrificial coating and turns it dark blue/black. Just like
most firearms look (that are blued).

The process is 1. clean the part with alcohol. 2. swab gun blue soulution with
a cotton tip on to the part. 3. wait 2 minutes. 4. was the part in water.

As does the SST fighter.

On a related vein...

For 15mm Stargrunt, I'm just starting to kitbash a VTOL gunship, using a
pair of 1/144 scale kits - one A10, and one Russian Hokum 'copter.

I'm using the Hokum's body, but leaving off the weapon wings & rotor.
Parts of the A-10's wings will go on top, with the A10 engines at the
end of the wings, in a 'tilt turbine' arrangement. I'm also going to rebuild
the Hokum's tail, using a mix of chopper & A10 parts. Weapon hardpoints will
go under the high wings, close to the body. I'll be using the A10 wing
inverted and shortened, so the wings will have a downward 'crank' or droop
about halfway along their length.

It should look very cool - the 'dry fitting' I've been doing looks good
-
and it'll even look fairly plausible, I think... Imagine a crossbreed between
a V22 Osprey & an attack helo...

I'll take & scan photos as soon as the creature is done - I want to get
it
finished for the local mini-con in mid-Sept, so I have a definite
timetable to work towards! (I'm also going to be out of town for DragonFlight
starting in about a week...) Must start cutting & chopping soon!

BTW a modified Chinook would make a good SG2 air transport. Take off the
rotars and replace with jets.

Micromachines makes an OSPREY also that would make a cool SG2 vehicle.

> Matchbox Mission Bravo stuff: Another Hummer (I think a truck variant

You know what I'm looking for My Raumlandesturm company? (I'm putting together
Plummer's Second Kompanie from Rot Hafen) I'm looking for a small fast but
most of all light and easily transportable vehicle very very similar to what
the current German paras used nowadays called the Weasel.
The real Weasel has a two- man crew and is maybe three meters long a
meter and a half wide and mounts either a GMS/L (Milan)or a RFAC/2 (25mm
autocannon) on it. I believe the problem with space/air deployable
forces will always be transport mass and interface landing characteristics so
a light and very small vehicle with some armored protection is what I need.
Plus this thing is air droppable. I saw that Mission Bravo or someone has a
bradley looking thing that almost fits the bill. As a full sized bradley it's
15mm, but as a Weasel (with some mods) it would fit the bill as a
2-man 25mm.

> In the Mission Bravo line, there seems to be (have not seen it up

Oh well there it is.

While rummaging through the attic today I found my wife's old Millenuium
Falcon. It's about a foot in diameter. With a little mod it makes agreat SG2
sized space ship. (I had ripped the radar dish off a while agao fto make a DS2
futuristic base.
