If no one has seen them yet, I picked up a couple of the new star wars
figs from WOTC this weekend - a scout with a blaster and a padawan and
another cerean jedi with lightsabers. Nice figs, other than the big square
base (likely to be removed from mine), they seem to be true 25mm.
I compared them favorably to an ESU Heavy Infantry figure. Flash seems to be
very minimal and they are well sculpted*[1] and they would appear to be good
figures for sci fi (I can see some of them serving as local forces, ships
troops, etc).
I don't know yet if they have sets. OTOH, At about $4 US per, they weren't the
cheapest figures I've ever bought. Now I'm trying to figure out how to paint a
lightsaber.... my first guess is using the "Cho (as
in Albert) technique" - paint the blade white then paint over it with
clear blue, clear red, etc from the tamiya line (thicker translucent paints).
Will post some pics if this comes out at all tolerably.
Full Metal Jedi anyone?
:)
Tomb
[1] They have good detail and good proportion. OTOH, many (witness one
of the Naboo Gaurd figures) incredibly stupid poses - the figure in
question has his blaster pointed off to the left meanwhile his right arm is
crossed (uncomfortably) across his body pointing right... he looks like he's
trying to do some sort of fancy new dance move.... and there are quite a few
figures in this line that seem to fit that "awkward moment" design ethic. But
if you find good ones, they seem to be well done. Just be selective.

Just a curious question...
Did Galoob or anyone else release the "little micromachine" figures based on
the new movie? (the ones released with the last two movies? Any new ones?)
I hope so...it's my only source of "prepainted-ready-to-use" figures.
(or PPRTU)

No sign of them at the moment - and nothing on the Galoob website either
:-(

Galoob was bought by Hasbro (who has the EpII license) and from the digging I
have done on Micro Machine message boards, they have no plans to do any EpII
Micro Machines or Die Cast minis. No plans for Action Fleet figures either but
there are some rumors that these might show up eventually.
They over-produced for EpI and didn't want to get burned again, but I
think part of the problem was that they choose the wrong items when they made
those figures.

Shame. A micro-machine clone landing craft or walker would have been
just about right for DS2. Guess it's time to break out the plastic card,
scalpel and glue again...
Since you're the fount of all SF model-related knowledge Dean (note -
gets flattery in first) do you have any news of EpII injection kits in any
scale?

Yup ;-)
Fine Molds, a small but high end model company from Japan will be producing
a Jedi Starfighter (including hyperspace booster) in 1/72 scale. Due
out in July, you will have to get it from Hobbylink Japan. No word of anything
else though.
For the latest sci-fi model news, the Starship Modeler website can not
be
beat (http://www.starshipmodeler.com)
Also in their news section, they just mentioned a small garage kit company is
going to be producing a 12" Moya from Farscape.....interesting.
Don,
Galoob was bought out by Hasbro. There were plans to release more of those
scale figures but I have not seen any here in Atlantic City, NJ.
