Subject: SSD miniatures

Looking over Brookhurst Hobbies web site, I noticed a manufacturer of which
I'd never heard, called SSD.

Looking at the SSD list, I found plenty of historical and modern figs, but
also a set of Starships that Brookhurst had subtitled as 'For Full Thrust
Rules'.

As I said, never heard of these folks, but I was wondering if anybody on the
list had seen their products. The list had two fleets, a fairly large
U-sylon(3 kinds of fighters, scouts, corvettes, ff, dd, cl, ce, ca, bc,
bb, cve and fleet cv), and a much smaller Aurigan(dd, cl, ca, bb, dn and cve)
fleets. Prices looked about standard until I got to the U-sylon fleet
carrier for $20US(*choke*).

Three questions come to mind: 1) Can anybody give reviews, either of their
products in general or the spaceships in particular? 2) Were these released
under another name before?
3)Can Jon sue for the reference to his rules? ;->=
4)
Oh, FOUR questions come to mind: 4) Isn't the Aurigans somebody else's race
already? Companion Games?

But of course, NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquistion!

P.S. As always, please forgive me if this has been covered previously when I
wasn't looking.

I noticed this too back in November. I emailed Brookhurst Hobbies twice,
once on 11/3 and again on 11/18 with no response so far.

What I have heard (2nd hand) is that they are OK but not much more and one of
the fleets has a marble in the middle. The same source also said that
Brookhurst is a pain to deal with and my experience so far does not make them
look any better. I should really call them and force them to respond to me.

SDD is another one of those UK miniatures companies that those of us across
the pond know little if anything about. Brookhurst is the US distributor for
SDD and several other companies but they don't seem to be spreading the word
much.

The M Collective would like to get pictures of their minis on the web, if we
can ever contact someone. The web page for Pendraken's Space Dreadnought 3000
line is very close to being done, all the pics are up and running, just the
final page formatting and tweaking left, so there should be an announcement
soon.........

Hello

I think I dealt with these people last year, they had an add in "Ragnarok",
and I phoned through my order. I ordered a heap of ships, of the type with a
marble in the middle. The ship model is in three parts, the foward section, a
marble for the middle, and a rear section. They don't have much surface
detail, but whether this is good or bad is a matter of preference. The foward
section has a spherical bridge, and a booom connecting this to the marble. The
marble is just that, made of dark opaque glass. The rear consists of one or
several cylendrical
thrusters. The ships look like this ---0---0. I like them , they have a
nice art deco 30's feel to them, and would recommend them. I had no troubles
with my order, and would suggest phoning them.

Peace and Love

Brookhurst Hobbies is my local shop. Yes they are a pain to deal with, even in
person. If you saw their shop you would be amazed that they even had a web
site, I know I'm suprised by it. I printed out the letters, so if any wants me
to check it out in person, I can. Just as long as no one needs know sooner
then a few days.

No surprise there -- Brookhurst's customer service is non-existent.
Even though they're the exclusive US distributor for a bunch of British
miniature figure manufacturers, they don't see the need to actually
distribute anything (perhaps they have too many good in-store games
going on). In my experience, it takes at least 3 months to get an order
filled, assuming the order doesn't get lost.
