I played FT last night, and EFSB a couple of weeks ago, which got me thinking
about Spinal mounts ala Traveller. I am starting to think along the lines of
the Beam weapons in EFSB, or high number FB Beam batteries. My first take is
20% of total mass and cost 3xMass used and only allowed the Front arc.. Effect
is 1 die per mass as Beams or? My goal is to make them cost effective only on
the larger ships i.e. mass 100+.
Thoughts? Flames?

If you've ever played the game Starmada, that kinda how the Spinal Mounts work
on their ships, though they have a more restricted firing arc.

Michael,
I'm not sure I understand what you're doing with the MASS and POINT COST
numbers. Perhaps you might put it a different way so I can understand it
better.

I've just treated spinal mounts as single-arc beams. For

Weapon: Mass Cost Spinal Mount 20% of ship massX3
A spinal mount takes 20% of the total mass of the ship. For example a spinal
mount on a mass 100 ship is 20 mass and costs 60 points (20x3). Damage done is
as for standard beams with 1 die rolled for every 2 mass of the weapon.

I see. You haven't modified the rules at all. You've just stuck a big gun on a
small (comparatively) ship. I can see why it's more effective on larger hulls.

Yeah -- no new rules, just a different design. I haven't had
a chance to try this ship out, but I like it on paper. A little
larger ship could carry a Class-5 and a Firecon, but I don't think
it would be as able to take damage. Since I have four of these figures, I like
the thought of having a few of these in a battle line.
