Here are some ideas my flat mate made up for hard shields and sand casters

HARD SHIELDS

Mass: 3 (or 5% of ships mass if greater) Points: 9 (or 3x mass if greater)

Hard Shields are an impenetrable electromagnetic wall of force used by a few
space craft in place of a physical heat shield, it also has the bonus ability
in that it acts like a GRAV field which stops the craft from impacting on a
planets surface.

The shield projects through a 90 degree arc from the ship, this is usually
the underside, but can be through the front for a bow first re-entry.
In
game terms this will give a ship a +3 modifier when entering a planets
atmosphere.

In the game it may be employed as a defensive screen which will stop any

attack (this includes missiles and fighters), but it will also stop (not

allow) any attack from the defending ship until the next turn when the shields
are shut down.

SAND CASTERS

Mass: 1 Points: 3

Sand Casters can be bought like armour, the player must declare that he will
fire them and how many he will fire before the attacker rolls any dice but
after weapon allocation.

Unlike armour sand caster are not lost when checking of damage, they are

crossed of when they are fired.

Each sand caster fired will reduce the number of dice rolled by the attacker
by one, it has no effect on fighters or missiles (this includes Kra'Vak
railguns and scatter packs).

Another thought is that each sand caster fired will incur a -1 modifier
on
only one dice, allocated by the defender.12/01/0012/01/00
i.e.: one sand caster will give a -1 on one dice, two on two
