Hmm.....This is just an idea that popped into my head, but why not make some
cards (or computerized equivalants, or something like that) with various
priorities, Rules of Engagements, Formations, Target Priorities, and other
special situations (convoy escort and so forth) and then randomly draw them?

Random Card:

Priority List: Defense of Flagship, Destruction of Enemy Fleet, Preservation
of Fleet

Rules of Engagement: Return fire only on attacking ship, allow cripples to
retreat (IE retreating ships) Retreat if more than 40% of fleet is damaged,
or if Flagship is heavily damaged (1/2 of hull points gone)

Formation: Double Vic

Target Priorities: See Rules of Engagement

Special Circumstances: None

I have some solo FT rules on my sadly neglected web site that were discussed
on the list a few years ago. My contribution to it is the "missions" idea
which came from playing the X-Wing/Tie Fighter series of computer
games.You can find them at

http://www.miniwar.co.uk/ft/rules/robot.htm

I also have my own ideas for solo Stargrnt at

http://www.miniwar.co.uk/sg/rules/solo.htm

Hope this helps.

Jon Davis et al have written FTJava so you can play by email with maps and
all. Very nice.

Yes, you can play both sides. We've got a couple of single player games
against a series of beacons and a terrorist asteroid. It Brendan Robertson's
'The Captain's Game' scenarios.
