SoA Slingshot CD index problem?

Sorry for this somewhat off-topic post, but...

A year or so back, SoA produced a 2-CD set with all Slingshots published

from 1965 to 2000 in pdf format.

On these CDs, there's also an index file, in something called "pdx" format.
According to other files on these CDs, this index file is supposed to be

readable by Acrobat Reader; if I understood correctly it should link to
individual articles in the various Slingshot files.

Trouble is, Acrobat 5.0 (which also came on the same CDs) doesn't recognize
"pdx" as a readable format...

What gives?
