I recently mentioned the Republic of Cascadia. The game world in which it
exists is one of my own making, and I am recruiting my friends/gaming
associates to play in it. Essentially, it's a home-brewed RPG where the
PC's and NPC's can range up to being the identity of an entire nation. It's an
interesting place, and I plan on tossing some fun conundrums my players' way.
One of the ideas I'm toying with is having one of them discover a Dyson's
Sphere. I'm also debating whether it will still be inhabited by
it's builders, and why or why not.... Any suggestions?

a) a ringworld isn't very plausible but it's more plausible than a Dyson
sphere. Not that you should let that stop you. b) if the builders are still
around, the players will be considerably
outclassed--the ability to build a Sphere requires ultra-super-high tech
c) if the builders aren't around, a Sphere will take a looooooooooong time to
explore. If you set it at one AU radius, it will have a surface area something
like 1.25x10^13 times the surface of the Earth, IIRC.

Agreed and Agreed.

Again agreed, the main reason to have them be gone.

Yes, won't it? And pose some very eerie questions to boot. *evil GM grin*
