Subject: Shiva Option

Too bad Weber is not planning on writing any more Starfire novels....I went to
the library the other day to see if Shiva Option or In Death Ground may be
available through my local library but unfortunately not. The only
Weber/White novel they did have was "Crusade"--picked it up and was
pleasantly surprised;very good book. All I kept thinking was "FT campaign"
while reading it. Now I will have to pick up all 3 of these novels when I am
solvent again.

Four, actually. In Death Ground, The Shiva Option, Crusade, and Insurrection,
though the count goes back to three when you look at In Death Ground and the
The Shiva Option as Tales of Interstellar War Four.

As was noted, the first came out in paper back, but the second in hardback.
Now, I spend a lot of money, but almost exclusively in clearance and cut out
bins. If I fork over cash for HB, you KNOW I had to finish that story
ASAP. ;->=

Your campaign statement is bang on. Crusade reads almost exactly like the
scenerio descriptions, with 'interludes' in the Starfire game suppliment of
the same name.

Have you read any Honor Harrington novels by Weber? Most on this list will
vouch for them, though I've not read one yet.

Oh, when you get around to it, take your time with In Death Ground/The
Shiva Option; I read it WAY too fast, and had a serious pang when finished.
Hmm... may dig them out again.

I thought he already had Crusade?

Crusade the novel reads like a series of battle reports from the playtesting
of Crusade the scenario module. Let's just say that this is no
coincidence :-/

Buy the StarFire scenario module "ISW4" and read it instead ;-)

Right: back to two. ;->=

That's OK, I kinda figured that out for myself.

You're claiming the 'interludes' are equal to the novel? ;->=

OK, I've made my prepay on a substantial portion of my GZG 15mm commitment.
If I can find an route/format I can live with, will do.

No, the novel is slightly fleshed out. The interludes (and battle reports from
the scenarios themselves) are only the synopsis DW&SW used when they
finalized the novel :-/

It should still be available in.PDF format from www.starfiredesign.com
-
at least it was last time I checked :-/

Horatio Hornblower in space:)

He takes a while to get the story going well, but by book 3 ("The Short,

Victorious War") it's rolling along well.

I'm about halfway through "Crown of Slaves" which is a Weber-Flint
collabo. I'm pretty sure Weber did the outline and Flint did the
characterizations. It sure reads better than Weber's solo stuff.

That's a frequent description but IMHO Forester is a lot better than Weber.
