Reading Schott's Original Miscellany, I came across Wine Bottle Sizes, and thought that they would make a good series for naming classes, they are from smallest to largest: Picolo Chopine Filette or Demi Magnum Marie Jeanne Double Magnum Jeroboam Rehoboam Imperial Methuselah Salmanazar Balthazar Nebuchadnezzar Melchior Series would be named after types of wines - for instance the first series of a line would be the "Burgundy Picolo Escort Class" the second series would be "Cabernet Picolo Escort Class" while individual ships would be named after specific vineyards or brands of wine, matching the series name. Distinctive ships would earn a "year" to the name for distinguished action: "Dom Perignon '69 of the Champagne Series Magnum Cruiser Class" or Melcior class "Moet '85" Champagne Series. --Binhan

Perhaps not. There really should be a "Box" class freighter for the cheaper wares. "Port" might be nomenclature reserved for "heavy or fortified" versions of classes. "Cognac" might be used for "distilled" classes that pack more "punch" than their size would normally indicate. Also just think of the jibes if you lose to such a fleet: "You were thrashed by a Dom Perignon '69 and a Magnum of Cabernet" It also leads to a new type of game with higher stakes - instead of ships, you play with actual (full)wine bottles - kills are claimed as victory spoils. --Binhan > -----Original Message-----

Yes, but what would you smash against the prow of such ships to christen them? A bottle of the wine after which they're named? That seems either very appropriate or darkly prophetic.... > --- B Lin <lin@rxkinetix.com> wrote: ---------------------------------------------------------- > > | | |

I do. Every day. (grin) The computer was built "Thank You" from two friends very hardware oriented for things I had said/done. But the power source (? Battery?) must be going. As soon as the hardware geek gets back this software geek will find out where to get a replacement and how to install it. This is the year I went from a 486/66 to a Pentium (one of the original Pentium processors IIRC.) Until then it will occasionally be 1999 (or 1995 which is another of the computer's fave years.) Usually when I boot up I get a message telling me that the clock needs to be confirmed because Juno has reset the clock for Daylight Savings... but not today. Given that I live in Hell House redux (it was built from a single story into a story-and-a-half by a person who has less construction knowledge that I do! And I recognize a ball peen hammer 2 times out of 3... After the sale information, sigh. Glenn says: "6 mm figures are my main interest. I play them in Historical, Fantasy and Science Fiction. But if you have the figures (5 mm through 54 mm,) the terrain and the rules... Fight's on!" Gracias, Glenn - last man in the world without a web site?
