I've just sat down and started working on a prototype of a VTOL for
SGII. It's based off an Apache body (1/100), with the back half
inverted, the tail wings off an A-10 (1/100), 2 space marine jump packs
and the apache winglettes. It'll mount a long barrel flat cannon underneith in
a turret (scratch built), and a couple of missle racks (somewhere:). What's
the feedback on how it looks? It's not glued together yet so if you think of a
better look let me know, I can just rearange it.:)

That's damned nice. Got a profile shot?

The Apache profile will still show a little, but that's not a bad thing
- it's a classic design in its own right. All in all a very good take on
the VTOL style. I can't wait to see it painted.

My VTOL was pure, off the shelf. Nice durable plasitic, already "painted" in
multiple colors, etc and only cost me $4.00 US of out of the bargin bin
at "Toys-R-Us". It was a drop ship from the movie "Starship Troopers".
As a matter of fact I saw two other types of VTOLs from some cartoon inspired
toys that I almost picked up this Summer in the same bargin bin.
But you see... I game SGII with 25/28mm so I can do this. :-P

Oh you can do that too with 15mm and smaller stuff:) I just happen to like
making some of my own stuff, it's creative and makes sure no one else has it.
:)
Oh and here is an updated shot of the VTOL, this is now assembled and only
awaiting a main gun and a another secondary weapon, unsure what as of yet.

Oh I forgot to mention that the VTOL on the left is Brian Burger's hack
model of a Mi-28 Havoc and an A-10 both of 1/100.
I like it. The nice thing is that you could theoretically swap out just about
any popular modern attack helicoptor for the pache to fit your needs. Hokum,
Havok, Mangusta, heck, might even work with a Hind.
Looks good. Waiting to see it painted now.
All this talk about 15mm, I may have to bug the guys at Eureka to do 15mm
versions of the PAs I pushed through in 25mm, just so I can play in both
scales with the same force.

I like the final arrangement. I am reminded of several slick designs presented
in Cyberpunk or even in the 6th Day.
Now I am motivated to find a 1/100 Osprey and a Hind F model to fuse
together. Anyone have any suggestions on where to find something to use for
large, round duscted fans, though? I'm thinking a sort of flatish disc
arrangement popularized in anime.

Yup. And by varying the types of engines you use you get a lot of
combinations.

You know you want to. Everyone else is doing it. All the cool kids play in
15mm.

Hmm. Maybe it's just me, but the tail looks a bit big - how's the centre
of mass?
Otherwise looks good. Maybe a more forward-facing approach to the jet
intakes? Winglets are fine, cockpit/nose is very nice indeed.
Heh,
It's yer fault. Since NorWesCon, I've been thinking 15mm fit better. You get
more playable space on a standard table. I'll be playing in both scales
actually, as I love both scales. Nice thing too, I can pretty much get away
with using my 15mm WW2 Germans and nobody will complain too much..:)
