I think the separate table idea with common artillery support is a good idea.
Wouldn't you have to synchronize the tables, though? You can't allow one table
to play out 5 turns while another plays out 1 turn if you're going to have
common artillery. Or could you?

Thanks, Gregory, for stating what I so poorly was attempting to indicate with
'tied together', as well as one table's interim results might effect another's
battle. This typing doesn't work so well when your mind outraces
