Has anyone seen the Ainsty Denizen figures in person, and if so, how are they?
Are they true 25mm, and would they mix with GZG figs?

The web site is

http://www.btinternet.com/~ainsty/denizen.htm

Thanks in advance!

As it happens I have quite a few of them (30+ Colonial Marine types, 20
or
so Federation Hard Armour and 20+ Ventauran troopers, plus one each of
teh
civilian/mercs! They are excellent and fit the scale almost perfectly.
Some figures are perhaps a tad smaller and they are sculpted a little finer
but they fit in very well!

I actually have a few both of the human and alien marine types floating
around. They are close to true 25 if not (don't have them right here) and they
blend wel lwith Star Grunt. A friend o mine was going to get some of
the human marines to use as non-hard-suited UN troops. Their vehicles
are really nice too and I love the Kith aliens.

I've got a relatively good picture of a pair of Fed Marines (one slightly
modified) at:

about midway down the page. The figures are very nice -- well sculpted,
and well positioned. The Ventaurans and Feds are perfect with the GZG
troops; the Khiff and the Mid-Tech Marines are a little smaller and
skinner than the true 25mm that I've seen.

That's K'hiff actually... ;-)
The Denizen range is, AFAIK, still made by Denizen themselves; Ainsty is just
a stockist of them. They should all still be available direct from Denizen,
and I believe that Stone Mountain Miniatures is the US licensee for both
Denizen and the associated Dark Star (Adler) range of 6mm SF.
Very good figures indeed, but unfortunately a "closed" line - what there
is will probably remain in production, but there will be no more items added
to the range (unless Chub at Denizen changes his mind and gets bored with
doing 1/43 racing driver figures, which is his main business now....)

Which is why we really need some alien cats (ala Cherryh's Pride of Chanur or
the Kilrathi from Wing Commander).

How about it, Jon?

For those who haven't seen them, the K'hiff look suspiciously like greyhound
dogs in monk's robes. They are actually very cool figures that go very well
with Stargrunt (25mm scale). You'll see them at GZGECC 3 if you attend.

RAFM make a pack of Aslan in their Traveller line. Nice figs, appropriately
larger than humans in 25mm scale. I leave the tail off for a great looking

I don't suppose anyone knows of any figures that could be used for Kzinti?
Probably not, I guess. I'd be amazed (and amused) if anyone did Pierson's
Puppeteers in 25mm. Kzinti I could see being used in Stargrunt II (treated as
Light Fast Power Armor, with some morale modifications) but Puppeteers would
probably stretch it to the breaking point (cowardly soldiers who would much
rather nuke the place from orbit than have to set foot on it), as would Pak
Protectors. Jotok would be fun, though.

Has anyone done any significant rules on alien psychology for SGII? or are we
all waiting for Bugs Don't Surf? I posted a while ago to
rec.games.miniatures.misc about different types of alien psychologies as they
might apply to combat, but didn't get much of a response. I'd be really
interested to see your thoughts on how to implement stuff like this in SGII
without bending the rules out of shape too much. Here's what I posted:

Another interesting mechanic for an alien race is the Pheromone Programming.
Based on real life entomology, the lead bugs are scouts and lay down chemical
trails. The soldiers who follow have their combat effectiveness and reactions
modified by the trail they follow.

And don't forget the Bandersnatchi. I keep thinking there's a possibility of a
game there - hunters v Bandersnatch(i)!

Of course I would love miniatures af ALL Niven's aliens (in 6, 15 & 25
mm),
but I might be able to put a quick game together for Bandersnatchi.

For a Bandersnatch in 15mm I'd use a large plush toy of a brontosaurus or
other large herbivorous dinosaur. White if you can get it. Or for
scratchbuilding them, a white tube sock stuffed with some material and closed
at the ends (both if you keep tube socks as
long as I do :-)

G'day Tom,

> Another interesting mechanic for an alien race is the Pheromone

Actually this is a great idea and opens the door to a whole range of
alterante behavious - seings there's a more then likely chance that
aliens won't use sight or even sound as their primary sense, but rather smell
for instance. Now that makes for some great battle scenes

"Hey they found us!" "I told you not to wear that new cologne..." <SMACK>
