Does everyone use 25mm scale for SG2? After playing a couple of games, I think
15mm would work very well. Does anyone know of a manuf. that makes a
complete range of 15mm sci-fi?I have heard of PeterPig and Freikorps but
I believe they are far from complete and are a little difficult to get in the
US. Does anyone know of a site that has pics of any 15mm sci-fi? I
thought that GZG made 15mm minis? There is a picture in the SG2 book that has
2 15mm minis next to 3 25mms...?

Now that Heavy Gear is changing scales to 1/144th (10mm?) and Agents of
Gamings StarSiege will also have 1/144 scale minis, maybe this is the
scale to get involved in. Are there any 10mm ranges currently available? Is
10mm to small for SG2?

Votoms is awesome... I have all of the VHS sets as well as some copies of
Armored hunter Merrowlink and some of the Votoms OAVs. I also have the Hobby
Japan Votoms special and the playstation games and etc... now if I could
only find the Votoms board games! The 1/60th scale models by WAVE are
cool and are about the same size as RAFMs HG minis. You can get them from
Hobbylink Japan and a guy named "probe" in Tucson... If you want I can dig
up the URL for HLJ and probes e-mail address.

I personally prefer 25mm, however, unless I use a really huge table (I used to
use a 5 foot by 9 foot table) a full platn of 25mm troops is too much. Because
of this I now tend to use a few fire teams on a 6x4 table and now i don't use
vehiicles. whereas on the big table it was possible without cramming them in.

> Is 10mm

When I now want to play pltn level games I use 10mm troops (and cm scales)
from Pendraken. One of the othr reasons I use 10mm is this is the only scale
where I can actually buy "Aliens". Thier figs are OK but not super and
although the games lack the visual appeal of 25mm they are better tactically
as the troops are more spread out and troops can move round outside personal
weapons ranges, something which is hard on a 6x4 in 25mm.

15mm is a great scale for sci-fi. There are so many
items that you could use: HO scale models, especially Roco Minitanks, Heavy
Gears, 25mm monster miniatures
for giant alien creatures, Exo-Squad Robotech toys....

> I have heard of PeterPig and Freikorps but I believe they are far

Brookhurst Hobbies in California distributes Peter Pig, and Outland Games in
Ohio has Freikorps minis. The Freikorps figures that I have look like Colonial
Marines and Aliens, but they are a bit chunky. I would be very interested in
15mm's from GZG...

You might also want to try http://www.hobbyweb.com and
look under Wave or Sci-Fi. Last time I checked they were around
$8 each.

I just bought a batch of GZG's 15mm NAC figs - very nice - I've done
some
modifications of some of them for snipers, EW troops, etc - no time now,
but I'll post a longish post on what I did on Monday...

No, and we only do them to order now ourselves. There were only ever 2 packs
(an NAC and ESU squad, 8 figs each in varied poses). Because we never got
round to expanding the range (mainly due to FAR too much to do in 25mm and
6mm) we dropped the 15mms from the catalogue.

Understandable... and you have done a great job with the 25mm and 6mm range
IMO. Would you be willing to let another company produce "approved" or
"official" SG2 15s? I think there would be a market for them... I would buy
them, alot of them. Anyone else on the list?

Me...I've done some modifications on several of the 15mm figs I got,
turning one into an EW Troopers (big backpack w/ antenna), snipers
(longer
rifle & ghillie suit) and heavy weapons troopers (one guy w/ a big
tribarrel RFAC/1 or GAC/1, one w/the tripod, one leader type...

I've also painted red crosses on one guy, and filed his gun off, for a
medic - more on this Monday, as promised - I've no time now, I'm afraid.

To get back on topic, yes I'd love to see more figs in 15mm - covering
some of what I did, and others as well - FO officers, that sort of thing
-
plus new nationalities.

As far as the 15mm figures go, if some become available, they would
prove useful for other game systems too. especially Traveller/Striker
which stuck with the 15mm figs for years.

I still have a few of the ancient Martian Metals 15mm figs for Traveller.

Galoob manufactures 15 mm figures for Star Wars and their Military figures
line. They would be a good and fast start to a collection, but lack in high
quality of painting.

5 pound sterling for a pack of MicroMachines troops? They're $5 here in the
States! For that quality & price, skip 'em!

MM StarWars minis are 20mm(HO)... really to big for 15mm.

I love 'em tho'. I am using them while I get my 25mm merc force painted up.

Has anyone seen Irregulars 15mm Sci-Fi? Is it a complete (ie vehicles,
plenty of troop types, etc) line?

Yikes! Thats almost $10, I think. I pay $6 for 9 minis to a pack.

So, Jon.. Would you be willing to let another company handle the 15mm line of
SG2 minis?

Yup! All the"small" MM packs are 4.99 UK pounds over here, unless they are
deleted stuff on special clearance (picked up some Aliens and Predator packs
last year for 2.99 each). On most US import stuff, the UK price tends to be
about the same number as the US price with the dollar sign replaced
by a pound sign - that is what shipping costs, import duties etc. do to
the price.

If I was approached by a reputable company with a good record, who made me a
decent offer and who I could trust re: quality etc., then I would give it
consideration. Please note that is not the same as saying "yes"....;)

Don't forget VAT. Not only is it higher in Europe (I believe UK is 17% vs.
US 5-8% depending on state), but the yanks have a strange tradition of
displaying prices exclusive of taxes.

Is there any chance, at all that GZG might continue the 15mm line? I don't
mean to be a pain in the ass, but... I just can't help but think there is a
decent sized market for them. I don' t think anyone would use 10mm if there
was a nice range of 15mm available, and players like my self who use other
companies 15s but would much rather buy from GZG. Not to mention people who
use 25s only because that is all that is available.

I'm guessing it all comes down to profitability(GZG is a business after all),
so I would assume that sales on GZGs current 15s must be
lacking...?

I realize it seems strange, but the total is figured at sale time, and can
vary by a penny or so per item between figured per item and by total. Why we
call it 'sales' tax...

Add on the fact that it varies, not only by state, but occasionally has a city
tax on top( I forget how much of the 6.5% I pay is Nebraska, how much is
Lincoln) and you can understand why it would be difficult to run it another
way.

Sorry, this is even more off topic than the discussion of micromachines
itself, but maybe someone can come up with a political angle for campaigns
comparing and contrasting the relative sovereignty of nation state
sub-units. (States vs provinces vs prefects vs....) Oh, nevermind. Yes,
Jon. Heading for that corner again.

The Irregular 15mm range is small but amusing. They break down into three
sections, troopers, pirates and lizard like aliens. There are a couple of
typical Irregular vehicles to go with them.

Within each of the sections there are five figure codes and each of those
codes has up to six variants.

As a quick guide I would say they are a cross between Games Workshop Gothic
( please don't send angry e-mails to me for mentioning the
unmentionables)
and 1960 Sci-fi. As I said amusing but definately not anything like the
GZG stuff.

For more details I can supply lists to those who request them via snail mail (
I will have them on a web page soon I promise).

Cheers

Nic

It is down to lack of time and capacity - while the interest in 15mm is
there, it is overall lower than 25mm or 6mm. We can't do everything.
Profitability comes into it as well of course.
