Oh. I didn't know SGII was nauseating... ;-)

[Tomb] Okay Oerjan, Narns are too good for you. You don't get the Holy
Bat of Gkar. You get Drahzi. Green, Purple, it doesn't matter... I'm sending a
battalion. How sacriligious to ridicule ambrosia like that - food of the
Gods is not fit for mere mortals.... <heh heh>

As to the criticism that SG2 is jargon loaded and you need to be a military
specialist to figure it out, I suppose it is a bit harder than FT (it has
terrain and more morale and such). But I don't think you need to be a
"military specialist". I have had a lifelong interest in these things and I
have served some time in the infantry reserve, but that hardly qualifies me as
a specialist. I know the acronyms, but I still had to learn the rules that
modelled them. It probably helps to have played many games over the last 20
years of gaming too. It might not be necessary to be a military specialist,
but it might not hurt to know someone who is "in the know". Plus you can
always ask us!:)

On another note, Kingston probably doesn't stock a lot of SG2 (I bought a
bunch of it, but that was a while back and I don't know if they restock).
Order from KR at Geohex. His service is fast... mind you, you do take a
beating on US exchange. Or try Nic or Jon if the exchange rates look more
favourable. Unlike FT, where a fleet can consist of $30 worth of ships, I
think in SG2, you're looking at a short platoon (3 squads plus command
squad) of about 28 guys ($60+) per side. Plus a copy of the rules. Plus
terrain (which you also avoid in FT). Say about $150 + terrain to have
two sides for fighting. I hate to think how much I've spent on my terrain,
vehicles (25+ now), and figures (nearing about 500 shortly). It is a
revolting total... <But better than spending it on doing evil.... this is
just good clean, guns-n-bombs fun>. If you want to email me off list
(email in the header obviously...), I can see about inviting you to our next
game in Kingston.

I have to concur - I have no serving military experience (although I did
work for GEC-Marconi on assorted defence research projects for 10 years)
and have had no trouble with the acronyms and abbreviations. SG2 is as
hard as you make it - play just the basic rules with no vehicles,
artillery etc and the game cracks along at quite a pace, and I've had no
trouble introducing new players to the rules.

There's always the 15mm option if funds are an issue - the new 15mm GZG
SG figures are excellent miniature versions of their 28mm cousins, and
are only about 1/4 of the price.

Jargon is no problem to me. Between having my Dad as Ex-Military and my
obsession with all things military I am intimatly acquantied with all kinds of
jargon and acrynoms.

Thank you, I would appreicate that a lot. With the whole school thing and the
fact that I don't have my drivers license yet timing could be a problem but
this semester I have a rather light course load compared to last semester,
which means I'm going to have more free time.

I use this e-mail mainly for the list so I might not check it as often.
