Subject: {SG2] Multiple Weapons Mounts

Now, as I understand it, in DS2, when a multiple weapons mount exists (lets
say I had 4 HELS mounted on my AA vehicle), when I fire, I draw chits or make
attacks for all of them.

In SG2, I'm not sure what the procedure for handling such multiple mounts. Let
me bring to mind an example I'm thinking of. Assuming we classify a.50 as a
SAW....

Do I assume Basic firecontrol (D6) + Crew Quality.... (which is, I
point out, no more effective than a single.50 mount... and not very effective
at all) OR
Do I treat it as a manually targetted weapon (Crew Quality + FP)? If
this option is chose, do I add 4xD10 as the firepower? I could kill battalions
with this!!!!

In short, I don't think either of those solutions is effective. Here is my
suggestion for handling multiple mounts.

Multiple Heavy Weapons Mounts Fired with Fire Control:
Crew Quality + Fire Control. For each extra weapon in the mount, add
one positive die shift to the Fire Control die. (Yes, firecontrol is a
limitation, but even crappy firecontrol with 10000 rounds fired will probably
hit). For example, a twin 30mm RFAC mount
using Enhanced Fire control would be Crew Quality + D10 (D8 shifted
up one for extra weapon in mount).

Multiple Infantry Support Weapons Fired Manually:
Crew Quality + Fire Power. For each extra weapon in the mount, add
one positive die shift to the fire control die. This means a quad
fifty mount would fire with D12 (D10 shifted up for FP) + Crew
Quality.

I (for reasons inexplicable) can't recall if FP is an open ended shift
(reducing range die) or not. If it isn't, you are of course limited at D12. If
it is open ended, then your quad 50 mount would shift the targets range die
down by two further.

I just find the idea of 1) treating a multiple mount as a single mount with no
change or 2) adding an extra FP die for every weapon in the mount to be two
extremes, neither of which is good. On the one end, you're underrating the
weapons. On the other, I think you are overrating it. rolling four FP dice for
a quad mount is insane. You'd almost be gauranteed to kill the entire squad!
(Although I'll say after having seen a phalanx fire on infantry mock ups, I
know nothing would be scarier than hearing that buzzsaw as your section
trudged through the
woods - you'd be cut in half like a Thanksgiving Turkey).

What say you, other list folks? Is an extra FP or dice merited per extra
weapon? For heavy weapons, would that be an extra FireCon dice? Or should one
treat multiple mounts the same as single mounts? Or is my suggestion feasible?
Other views are welcome. (And perhaps, unavoidable.... grin).

Battalions were killed with this! In WWII the quad.50 SP AA (M16 MGMC) was a
devastating anti-personel weapon. There are many stories (especially
from the Ardennes) of an artillery battery and attached AA company holding off
battalion sized infantry assaults. The 20mm Quads were also greatly feared as
anti-personel weapons. I don't see the massive FP bonus as being out of
line at all. The vehicle is only going to be able to target one squad at a
time, but if that squad is caught in the open, then it's in real trouble and
in a bad spot even if in cover.

Remember that they can only target one squad at a time. And yes, they were
devastating. In DSII, quad APSW are THE infantry squad killers.
