A question I received via stargrunt.com:
---
Can a member of a squad pick up a fallen squad member's weapon? Especially
important if the fallen troop is a Support Weapon.
Hi Jeremy,
"Strictly by the rules" the answer is no......and you are right, a lot of
discussion has gone on before. Essentially people have come up with plenty of
arguments for different house rules mechanisms to model recovering a weapon;
Qual checks etc.
Personally, in our little group we don't. We tend to keep most of the rules
simple adding the house rules to highlight gameplay enhancements we prefer eg
limiting smoke and when it can be used.
Personal preference should be employed.
Cheers,
Owen

Check the archive for the thread from February of this year "do
GMS/P
troopers carry ARs?" This started on 22 Feb and went on for a few days and
over 40 messages. Oh the pain. <g>

Yes, indeed. The one that I use (when my group allows this, which isn't
always) is yes, but you have to do it right away. If, however, the Impact die
was more than 3X the armour die, OR the armour die rolled a 1, you can't (it's
assumed the weapon went to). Perhaps not extremely accurate, but it works....

This is, of course, the MOST important thing to remember....

I've played it with the following, marginally simpler rule. If the model is
taken out as an unknown result (impact roll less than double armour roll) then
the weapon can be recovered, with a reorg action. If the model is killed
outright (impact roll doubles or better the armour roll) then the weapon is
destroyed also.
Very simple, but it works and doesn't require any "calculating"...
