I'm using Sci-Fi Supply's vacuformed walls and I've got several years
worth of junk accumulated for machinery, equipment, etc, put I'd like
something great looking for the deck. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jed Docherty

The cheapest thing I can think of, if you want a metallic floor, is it get
some sheet metal. Cheap tin or low grade steel. Be careful there are not sharp
edges, and put that down as your surface. For that matter, you can buy flat
pie sheets and such which will NOT be sharp and you can lay these down as
"tiles". The neat thing about this is that they are reasonably cheap (as game
supplies go).
If you want something with a different design, you could try modelling floor
parts out of styrene sheets. You could cut out squares for your deck plates
and glue them to a styrene base. Maybe put holes in the squares for texture,
paint up, and you have deck plates.

Revesco has some download stuff, I did not look closely at the items though.

My first go at a floor for my Aliens board was plastic window screen, with
plastic modeling putty squeegeed into rows and columns of the screen for the
'squares'. Incredibly arduous for moderate results.
I've found some florescent light panels that have neat squares and 'grid'
inside the squares. Only thing that concerns me is, whenever I get around to
it, and it's been YEARS, I think it's acrylic and can be tricky to cut without
cracking.

PS Jed, did you ever get the second bunch of Star Wars micro machines from
me? Back before TRU started dumping? ;->=

This sound like it would could look really great. If I used really thin
styrene for the top layer I could use a hole punch, which would make the work
go pretty quickly. And I think hole punches come in different shapes -
have to find out about that. Jed

In the case of the window screening, I made my game box basically like a
drawer, wooden bottom and sides, with a handle on the long side. The
screening was spray painted gray, the floor of the drawer-box painted
black, then the screening spray-adhesived to the floor. The lines of the
'squares' I then laid down with modeling putty (made a special plastic
channel tool) and hand-painted a matching gray after the putty set.
WAY too much work, but most people thought it looked pretty cool, and the
Aliens board game is simple enough to have nine people having a good time in
short order. Good con time filler.
Also, the wall coverings were made from thin strips of bead styrofoam
match-sculpted and painted black. Dangerous (some weird Great Modeling
Mishaps close calls there) and too much work, again. I've plenty of
Sci-Fi
Supply walls and Kryomek resin pieces on hand for my next attempt!

Either cut it to the shape of the room or draw on it with permanent marker
Maybe I'm just a rebel, but I'd do it the easy way. Go to your favorite source
of sheet styrene and either order or buy several sheets with a treadplate
pattern. Quick and easy, and only slightly more expensive than plain sheet
styrene.
