G'day,

You'd think the IF amongst others would need them as well. As beards are one
of my favourite male things I would love to see some bearded troops. I've
been toying with painting beards/moustaches on my SG platoon when it
turns up (decided on Nic at Eureka's new Aussie's from Vietnam range... VERY
nice!!)... though as Derek wants to double up and use them for playing Vietnam
stuff I foresee a clash of wills on that one;)

Ah, the curse of falling in with a gamer!

You just need two sets of armies, any time you buy a fig, you have to buy one
for the "other side" too! And God forbid you should paint it wrong. I have a
couple of friends who got into an argument about what color Sauron's base
should be. Ended up, he saw the light and traded his

beautifully painted Sauron (with, god forbid, a light dusting of GREEN flock
on the base) for an unpainted one...

Yes every silver lining has its dark side;)

Funnily enough that's the way it's going to go. Over time Derek's getting a
set to be painted up as Aussies from Nam ("because they're so identifiable")
and I'll being getting a set ("because they're just cool looking figs with
guns and perfect for SG").... so everything works out in the end. Mind you I'm
not the kind of person who gives up beautifully painted figs because of the
colour of the flock!!!;)

Considering that the Israelis already make protective masks for beared males
the issue of beards is trivial.

It's just that most nation's militaries do not make allowances for facial
hair. Part of this is that uniformity kick the US Army is on. I swear, if they
could make us the same height and dye our skin and hair the same color they
would.

Well, when I finally get around to painting my light
infantry/Akritai figures they will have beards,
goatees, mustaches, etc.

Does this stem from anything rational/traditional (e.g. WWII to recent
masks or anything?)?

Cool!

There is a little trick I learned from a friend. He was putting on a game at a
convention and one of the players would not stop complaining. He took a stand
away from

one of the complainers units and when he asked what he was doing he said "you
were not paying attention to your army and they deserted". The complainer was
just about to say something when he say my friend reaching for the next stand
and he shut up. End of argument.

When someone complains about a painted figure take it away (if his figure) or
transfer out of his army to the one he complained about (if an opponent). He
will shortly see the light or at least keep quiet for the durration of the
game.
