I'm thinking to build sections of a Jerez for 15mm boarding actions at 1" =
3m. Has anyone seen suggestions for modular hull designs? If not, are there
ship interiors (in addition to the Traveller Web Ring stuff) that anyone can
point me to?
(for the curious: a Jerez is 56mm long, 34mm wide and mostly about 3mm
thick. If it's 1/2400, that's 134.4 x 81.6 x 7.2m = 39481m^3 (I
divided by two since it's basically triangular, and I figure the extra
thickness of the rear wings and the bridge should make up for the gaps
amidships--if anyone has a graduated cylinder, feel free to provide
more exact volume). If a Jerez is 8800 tons, that's roughly
4.5m^3/ton--a surfaced submarine has a displacement of about 2m^3 per
ton).

Sounds like a bloody cool project. And here I though I was cool making
fighting positions with overhead cover and slits for firing on the oblique.

Remember, you'll have boat bays, weapons bays, reactant mass storage, air
tankage, in between spaces and lots of other dead spaces.

Well, if you're *making* them, and I'm only *thinking*, you have me
out-cooled. Given my modeling skills--or lack thereof--you may well
still have me out-cooled after I've built it...

Lots of dead and wounded spaces, yes, that's the plan.

There's not that much to them really. Just a bit of EPS that is tall enough to
act as the ground between the bottom of the position and the chest'ish height
of the figure. I used the basic US infantry fighting position as a basis for
the terrain. I even included overhead cover, cubby holes at the bottom for
gear and such. The overhead cover bridges the sides of the trench and is made
of a
couple of logs (sticks) and some plas-steel sheeting (cardboard)
covered by polymer stabilized earth (brown flock glued with flock adhesive).

Getting fancy would include a boat bay with a ships boat (pinnance?) in the
bay.
As far as all sorts of plumbing and such, use what ever really looks good.
Though given its a futuristic ship and not a piece of crap from the Imperium,
I expect that the interior would be rather neat and organized. Cabinets and
access panels would be the norm rather than exposed pipes and conduits.
Regularlay placed Damage control gear would be likely though. Mostly Fire
fighting gear, cables and tanks of spray foam for sealing pressure gaps.
Imperium Games had a nice ship design book for Traveller, "Naval Architect's
Manual" which had lots and lots of floor plans for commonly encountered ship
spaces. Quarters, sickbays, tactical action centers, gunnery spaces, etc.

I have absolutely no idea if Imperium Games is still solvent or not, but the
books can still be found in game stores, and a search for the name turned up a
few online merchants who claim to have copies for sale (there's also a "Naval
Architects Manual" for GDW 2300 game floating around, but it has no deck
plans, only design rules for Star Cruiser).
Hiya,
I don't know if this will help, but Steve Jackson Games has 25mm scale deck
plans for 5 different Traveller starships. This is from the sjgames.com web
site:
"Thirteen double-sided maps join to form the full Beowulf - with hexes
on one side and squares on the other, every Traveller fan will be able to use
them! And there's a sheet of Cardboard Heroes miniatures with crew and
pirates...."

Bog, starships is big! And that's only a DD - anyone want to tackle a
15mm SDN?
I'm (sort of) planning a light/tramp freighter for 15mm - it sounds like
it's going to have to be a bit bigger than I was thinking... Having peered at
teh Beowulf free trader map sheets from Steve Jackson, I'm thinking of
cribbing parts of that design for a freighter.
No actual plans as yet - then again, most of my large and/or interesting
projects have been started on the spur of the moment, with no blueprints
or plans whatsoever... Plus I'm in a clear-the-desk painting & modelling
mood, so I might as well clear the deck for something spectacular...

Have we found a legitimate skirmish setting for 6mm figures!????
Okay, back to sanity.
Gracias,
