Subject: [SG] Possible FAQ - Ordering GZG from the States?

My apologies if this is in a FAQ someplace, but I'm pretty sure I haven't seen
it.

I'm looking to add to my rapidly ballooning collection of
GZG figures, but I want some stuff that Geo-Hex doesn't
carry. The last time this happened, I went through Eureka and had great
service, but Eureka doesn't seem to carry the figures either.

I'd prefer to order through the web on a secured server, but that doesn't seem
possible. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or any experience on emailing
credit card information to St.Jon and how it worked out for them?

Have you tried <http://www.gtns.net/gzg> yet. Paul's site hosts a
number of the items Jon has available.

All my previous orders from him were great. On order made it from the
studio to my home in the great snowy state of Minnesota in three - four
days. Needless to say I was a bit shocked.

That's the way I did it a few months ago--no problems.

I've ordered from Jon, doing the same thing, from Canada. Worked out
great. The best delivery time was the day I sent the e-mail on the
Monday morning, and the package was in my mail box Thursday night when I got
home.

Send an e-mail with your order and half your credit card info (I usually
send half the credit card numbers). Send the other half in a second
e-mail along with the name on the card and expiry date. Make sure your
address is in one of the two e-mails. Works great.

Thanks for that, Allan (and everyone else who has responded to Mark's original

our best....! regarding security, while there are no
cast-iron
guarantees we reckon that the split-email method Allan's outlined above
is about as safe as you can get; if you are still worried then feel free to
mix the 4-digit number blocks of the card - eg: first and THIRD sets of
four numbers in one message, and second and fourth sets in the other -
as long as you make it clear to US which way to read it, I honestly can't see
any kind of nasty email-interception software being able to make much

We've been taking orders like this for a couple of years now, and to date not
one customer has had any problems that we've been made aware of.

BTW (and this applies to everyone ordering from us by email) please address

I'd like to throw in a plug for my favorite e-commerce tool: PayPal
(www.paypal.com). SInce they recently went international (and have recovered
from Xmas). It's a simple way to send money securely. They'll even set up an
account with a bank draft so you don't even need to use a credit card.

All GZG has to do is open a business account (there's a small rake-off,
which is how they pay their bills) and presto, 'they' accept credit cards.
This simplifies the matter and is far more secure (anyone who can steal one
email with a credit card # can steal the two with half each).

I recently used PayPal and it works quite well. However, it's intended for use
by people who don't usually take credit cards. GZG already does take credit
cards, which means they take a hit already on credit card orders. Taking
PayPal would mean an extra hit.

As for someone stealing your credit card by e-mail, this is highly
unlikely. Anyone harvesting credit card numbers is doing it in other ways:
hacking databases, cracking credit card algorithms, stealing unissued numbers,
etc.

In reality, you stand a greater risk of someone on the other end making use of
your credit card number than of someone stealing an e-mail. It's far
easier, for instance, to have your credit card number stolen after you've used
it at a gas station. Thieves will sometimes steal credit card receipts as well
as cash for this reason.

Finally, credit card companies have been losing sales to debit cards. As such,
they have been quick to market credit cards as a safe tool for
e-commerce. If
someone steals your credit card number, it's an inconvenience, but you can
contact your bank and they will cancel the transactions. It won't cost you. In
some places, such as Canadian banks, you can have a replacement card in a day
or two, sometimes within hours.

In all honesty, of the various things to worry about, someone stealing your
credit card number via e-mail is incredibly low. A friend of mine, who
at the time worked for a bank, had his credit card number stolen and he had
NEVER made a purchase over the Net with it.

If Jon is truly concerned that clients may lose their credit card numbers, he
should look into Pretty Good Privacy and accept encrypted e-mails. For
that
matter, I'm waiting for GZG to -- some day -- set up an actual secure
e-commerce site.
