Just bought one of the Heavy Gear minis, I believe it's a Jager... I had in
mind using them as power armor, but after putting it together, I think it may
be just a bit too big. I might end up using it as a size II walker.
Anyway, I've seen the box set of their tactical squads. Are they the same size
as the Jagers or any smaller? Does anybody else use the Heavy Gear stuff in
StarGrunt?

Talking about Heavy Gear miniatures is a "Hot Button" topic! :-)
OK, now that I've gotten that out of my system - be warned that the
"new"
HG minitures produced by Dream Pod 9 in the small boxed sets with full color
box art are 1:144 scale (12mm), while the Jaeger that you bought in a blister
pack is OOP from RAFM and are 1:87 scale (20mm).
If you have located the larger boxed sets that are labeled "Azure Devils" or
"Desert Sharks", then those two particular sets are the older OOP gears at the
1:87 scale. Look for RAFM as the manufacturer to verify. If you are looking at
the "Northern General Purpose Gear Squadron" or similar, in
a smallish full-color box, then those are the newer 12mm Gears, and
would only work if you play SG2 at 10mm or 15mm scales.
I have a *lot* of the RAFM Heavy Gear miniatures, but I use them for playing
Heavy Gear! <g>

I use 15mm for SG2, and just picked up a box of 5 Northern Gears - the
new, small DP9 ones. They're great for 15mm infantry walkers. They
work out about 28mm tall feet-to-head, so a bit taller than I'd like but
workable as Size 1 inf. walkers.
Only problem is that in the 'General Purpose Northern Gear Squad' box I
have, all 5 have the same weapon, so my GMS/H equipped ones will require
a bit of chopping and kitbashing. They'll work nicely into my Mech Inf & PA
companies.
I've also got one of the big, big older RAFM Gears - a Recon Hunter, I
think it is. These guys are big - probably 40+mm tall - so I run it as a
Size 3 walker usually for 15mm SG2. Nice mini - I gather RAFM had some
quality control problems which lost them the HG line, but they aren't apparent
in my figure.
Some of the BTech minis are usable in SG2 as well, either in 15mm or 25mm. The
newish 'protomechs' might work as 15mm alien PA, and some of the
larger battle-armoured infantry (Clan Elemental type stuff) is just a
hair too short for regular 15mm humans. (hmmm...wierd Tolkien infection
happening...what sort of forces would the Hobbit Imperium Space Force field?)
Some of the regular BT 'mechs would also work as Inf. Walkers, as well.
I have used the Old-style Gears liek you are talkign about as Class 1
and 2 Walkers as well as some of the old Jovian Chronicles minis. These make
some of the best Combat Walkers for Star Grunt in my opinion. they have the
right feel and a very cool appearance.
The new HG minis are a smaller scale (not sure) but would seem to make for a
good group of PA, maybe a bit bulky or heavy, possibly older or more armored
designs.

The new HG stuff wouldn't really work as 25mm PA - the proportions are
wrong - the waist is too narrow by a long way. Maybe aliens and/or
robotic PA, though... The designs are identical to the old, big Gears, AFAIK.
Just the size has changed. (I have an old, big Hunter Recon, and 5 new, small
Hunters. They're basically identical, except for details.)
Great 15mm infantry walkers, though!
